Yeah, agreed - Cathy's harems look amazing on her but the waist is up high, giving her the leg line even though the crotch is dropped.

I struggle with this and even Angie did - you notice she wore a slight heel in her BF jeans pics? That was to balance things out a bit. For me it does make a difference. Although I DO (for super casual days) wear my slouchy skinny jeans with my Bundstones (flat boot). When I do that I try to emphasize the waist somehow.

Good lessons here, Angie's pictie's are worth a million, for understanding slounchy vs. baggy. Now, I do only have same concerns on the thema like Shinny said, what about short legs, without towering heels?
I am not petite, at 5'7"-and have a long torso, but shorter legs for my frame.
Now, I got the visuals from "cciele" (are also very helpful)who is petite and styled her high waisted slounch pants to the best with a tuck in. It's fab on her, but then I have another fear that in my rear view my tush will got giant proportions..(I also have higher waist, wide hips and apple tendencies). So even this look is very applealing to me as being so comfy- I guess is still not for me, Amen!:-(.

Well, I'm 5'3" and consider myself as having short legs. Here's an old picture of me wearing flats and harem pants, which I guess qualify as being slouchy pants (hm, I guess I already have slouchy pants--haha!). I think, like with any kind of dressing, proportion is key to pulling off the look.

Sinead brings up a good question I've been pondering. Can you do slouchy -- dropped crotch point -- with short legs? Without towering heels to balance it out?

I am intrigued to try this. I have narrow hips. I love trousers that are loose enough to balance out my thin thighs/calves/etc. This slouchy look may work for me, and goodness it looks comfy and I'm all about comfy -- but what about the short legs?

Thanks for the visuals Angie. I am with Janet. I tend to go for some but not too much slouch because too much overwhelms my petite frame and too much slouch either on top or bottom can make me look bigger.

Very helpful. Ariadne, I'm with you in thinking this is a bit tougher to pull off successfully when you have a body type like mine -- fuller hips and thighs. A *little* bit of slouch can actually mask the issue, but there seems to be a very fine line before it just seems to add extra width to an area I really have no desire to make larger! I think ITs, slim hourglasses and straighter figures have a much easier time making this look work.

Oh, I had it completely wrong! I thought slouchy was just a high-waisted pleated look, like your second picture- the baggy one. I've been educated. And with my short legs, I think I'll have to stay far away from "slouchy".

Very helpful, thank you, Angie. I love the looks in #2 and #5, in particular. Just in case you check back into this thread, I'm still wondering if this is a look that only works on tall, slender, non-curvy body types. I just can't picture how the fit would play out on someone with full thighs and hips, for example (well, I can, but it doesn't look anything like the looks in those photos).

Great visuals - thanks Angie. I've been trying to recreate these looks by sizing up, but it seems like the issue I have is that it just looks like I'm wearing pants that are too big. In these examples, they look like the pants still "fit" in the waist but are cut to be roomy in the hips, crotch and thighs - the slouchy look seems to read as intentional here. On me, it looks like I'm just wearing pants that are too big!

Vildy's explanation is good, but slouchy pants can be cropped, so length is not a prerequisite.

Suz, slouchy pants do not need to be tapered, and the crotch points can be excessively dropped.

The dropped crotch point causes room everywhere else on the fit - on the leg, seat and hip parts especially. Sometimes the legs are tapered, sometimes not. Sometimes the waistband is low and sometimes not. There can be extra slouch on the legs with extra length, but this is not so on cropped versions or shorts.

The crotch point MUST be dropped on slouchy jeans, shorts and trousers. If the crotch point is not dropped, they are not slouchy. Just baggy and extra roomy.

And then there are degrees of slouch. Some subtle and some severe. The photos below show quite severe slouching. Look at those dropped crotch points. Drapey fabric accentuates the slouch.

Mary, I think there are lots of different ways to interpret slouchy, which is one reason we're all struggling a bit with it here!

The current slouchy pants are tapered a bit between knee and ankle. They also have a slightly dropped crotch point. They can sit on the hip or be sliding a bit off the hip (and need a belt); sometimes might sit higher on the waist. They are usually not pleated in front.

In my perception, the look involves too much length usually in both the distance from waistband to crotch point and in total. Fabric has nowhere to go and pools and ripples a bit. This presumes that the fit itself is not a skinny body conforming one but is looser.
