The gel insoles are quite big and may not fit in many of your shoes. Foam insoles are cut with scissors to whatever size you need, so no worries about not finding them small enough.

With foam insoles, I have not noticed any difference between Dr. Scholl's and drugstore brand, and I have stopped buying the double-thickness ones because they make most of my shoes too tight.

For cushioning at the ball of the foot, the very best thing I have found is the Stiletto Hardware Ball-of-Foot cushions: http://stilettohardware.com/bof.html The Ultra-Slender version will not make your shoe too tight, and the full-cushion version is great in shoes where you have more room.

Rae's thread on foot metamorphosis really nudged me to taken some action to take care of my super fussy feet. I've only had the drug store foam type full length insole. Here are some of my ignorant questions:
1. Is gel insole better? More shock absorbing? More comfy?
2. What's purpose of 1/2 insoles, wouldn't it feel unbalanced?
3. The messaging ones? Seems to hard to find a plain one. Are they really useful (seems uncomfy)
4. Is there an all-in-one full size with arch support, all gel?
5. Does brand matter.. Dr Scholls all the way?
I need small size 4-6, seems less choices. I need more cushion at balls of feet, and some arch support in general. This is to accommodating walking only 1/2 mile, and mostly sitting at a desk job. I've never worn shoes over 3 inch, yet they are still getting fussier...
