I followed nancywalters advice and tried a shirt knotted in front. Nancy, is this what you mean? Maybe different footwear?

Thank you each for your comments. They are so helpful in evaluating these pieces. This dress and another are the closest thing to loungewear that I wear. I can pop it on to make coffee, even drink it walking in the garden (visible to neighbors) or getting the newspaper. It looks like the Japanese tee will be donated.
Nancy, I like the idea of tying a shirt over this dress and am thinking white shirt & white sneakers.
Angie,I should have mentioned that I have another black sleeveless shift dress that I could use in the same way ( from the same trip to the Goodwill), but you are right. It looks best without a topper.

1, 4, 5-6 are my faves! I like the sporty look with the sneakers, the dressy casual with the sandals, and the super-cool look with the cropped top. Nicely done!

With the different tops, I wouldn't think it was the same dress. You're getting a lot of mileage out of that dress with all those possibilities. All of the outfits look great. I do agree with you that the dark shoes in #3 are a bit overwhelming. Another possibility might be a white button-down tied at the with with a bold necklace and the sandals in #1.

#1 is a great lounging dress, Joy. And wearing it as a skirt in #2 is clever. I like the length of that top.

Sure. Wear #3 around the house. Why not.

#4 is fashion forward. And #5 is adorable.

Road test the looks this season. If you don't like them after that - bag it all up. xo

I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.
After Angie's post on sleeveless dresses and toppers, I pulled out an old Express dress with spaghetti straps...way to young a look for me and not flattering. However, this dress is perfect to wear around the house on a steamy day but I like to pop on a topper if going out in public.
1: First, the dress on its own. It was a $3 Goodwill find soon after I'd lost weight. It was tighter then and only came home with me because a shopping friend insisted.
2: dress with sleeveless floral top. Is this top too long to wear like this?
3: Dress with nylon Japanese print tee with elbow length sleeves and black Merrell sneakers on my feet. Too dark?
4: Dress with sneakers. This is very comfortable and I may wear this around the house if it looks OK.
5-6: Dress with a cropped animal print nylon tee.
Can you tell that I like breezy non-absorbent nylon for hot days? All the tops that I used over the dress are thrifted and the whole of the outfit pieces except the shoes will probably be donated after this season. Or do you think that I should forget this look and bag it up right now?
