Caro, this is one of my favorite TED talks! I try to watch it every now and then for inspiration. I love the idea of using games to solve real life problems. I remember an article a while back where a breakthrough in AIDS research was made by having a lot of people tackle the a piece of the problem through gaming. Harnessing our competitive side can really help solve real world problems.

Thanks Janet & Gigi - I loved the dove-tailing of the 5 regrets of the dying & the 5 positives people took away from trauma.

That is inspiring! I remember reading once that you can gauge the health of a particular relationship by comparing the number of positive statements to the negative ones. If the ratio of positive to negative is less than 5:1, your relationship isn't as healthy as it should be. This is similar to the above comment that you want a 3:1 ratio for positive to negative emotions.

“A traumatic event doesn't doom us to suffer indefinitely. Instead, we can use it as a springboard to unleash our best qualities and lead happier lives.”

“If you can manage to experience three positive emotions for every one negative emotion … you dramatically improve your health and your ability to successfully tackle any problem you're facing.”

I found the above TED talk & quotes inspiring. It is a couple of years old so I may be the last one to have seen it
