For me it generally helps, because it reduces the angle of my foot and also takes some of the pressure off the ball of my foot (which is where I get pain from heels).

I only have a couple pairs of shoes with a platform, and I haven't found them noticeably more comfortable than heels of equivalent height. In one case, I think it may actually be more uncomfortable.

I think it depends on foot issues. I find a shoe that allows a lot of flexion in the forefoot actually hurts my feet these days, so I prefer a solid sole, which often means a mini-platform (like 1/4 to 1/2 inch, I'm not a fan of the really big platforms). When I was younger, flats with no support or cushioning were my choice.

This must depend on construction, as my platforms are all wood and they keep one from 'feeling' the ground. I would not say they are more comfortable.

I've noticed this too. I do think the extra cushioning from the platform helps a lot here. I've owned some heels with very thin soles and, even if the heel height isn't that bad, having the ball of my foot bearing all of my weight with no padding under it just drives me crazy.

In looking through my shoes and boots and thinking of which are most comfortable, I noticed that the ones with a platform felt the best. Now, I know that obviously the platform makes it easier to wear a higher heel, because the ball of the foot is raised too. But the "true" heel height of these shoes is not lower than that on other shoes and boots that I have, so it can't simply be a matter of heel height. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if it's simply a coincidence? I'm wondering if having the extra rubber at the bottom of the ball of the foot helps absorb shock better and creates a more comfortable shoe.
