I know how you feel, I did succumb to my desire of shopping for my future but my future still hasn't arrived.

I totally get this. All the things I bought for "corporate" wear when I was in between my last and current job really didn't get worn. Until we changed our dress code to more dressy and now I am using some of the items but my style has gone in different direction generally.
Doing the closet re-sort always makes me want to put off adding to the closet. Cleaning the garage makes me want to burn it down

Good time to slow down purchases and do more SYC ing. Save up for when you have a better idea of your parameters.

When you feel the urge, think accessories, shoes and jewelry. You can use those items no matter what or where you wind up!

I agree with Parsley. Keep it small until you know what you are doing...less to move, fewer decisions, and Internet shopping makes it easy to order from anywhere if you move.

Lots to consider but I think you were onto something grand with the colour scheme thing of a week or so ago. I have been using your ideas as my mentor! If you stay within the selected colours, and perhaps add also garment styles would this do the trick for now while things square out?

As hard as it is to restrain from shopping for the future, it seems like your best bet is just to meet your current needs and only buy for the future when you know where you'll be and what you'll be doing.
Uncertainty is tough, isn't it?

Oh man, I have NO idea what the future is going to throw at me. Am I staying at Big Tech? Am I going to get enough freelance to quit? Are we moving? Where? (Because things are getting complicated.)

I don't want to buy things I won't be able to wear, but I am battling my usual impulse to pre-arm myself with clothing so that when I get wherever, I feel good about my options. Which is kinda nuts, really.

Just sharing, don't really have an answer.
