Go for the khaki and tan while it is having its moment. You might like Lands End board shorts. They come in several lengths and are well made with good pockets and can be worn as regular shorts for gardening, etc. There are plain and prints. They have sun screening tops (rash guards) that can be worn as regular tops and with the shorts. All are in the swim section.

Hmmm, lots of khaki and tan on that Pinterest page, in contrast to your finds, which are organized principally by color. You post a lot of color in outfits too. Maybe you could use that bandana as a belt, wear your No Bull ditzy print shoes, or add a vest, but thinking of your recent love affair with lilac and your blue/white floral blouse, I have a hard time picturing you in such a low contrast color scheme that’s such a low contrast to your own coloring.

I think LaPed just nailed the reason why I shop so slowly, and am so reluctant to part with my things once i find pieces that work—I prefer items that have both “utility and range of motion” and “breezy natural fibers in simple loose silhouettes”. Your best outfits, imo, encompass both. That blue/white blouse is an example. An A-line skirt, as Suz suggests, could be both as well, as long as the cut was just right—neither so severe that it limits movement nor so flouncy that it catches on things.

Many of the photos on your Pinterest board are of women in motion, and the clothes are moving, flowing—not billowing across the screen, but certainly accommodating the wearers’ movements. I can see why that would appeal to you, based on your activity level.

Just my opinion.

You have a great plan for s/s. I plan to add very little but to move from crops ( my shorts). To more casual skirts and dresses. I find that I must shop early for certain items or they have been snapped up. I second Angie’s suggestion of small scarves for summer. I even sometimes soak and freeze cotton bandanas. They are cooling while gardening and can add a bit of color and/or pattern. You can spray them with insect repellent too. I like to twist mine into a ropes and even add a knot for a necklace look. I tie the ends into a small knot at the back of the neck. The decorative knot can be in front or assymetrically to one side. The Gap often has cute small scarves. Bandanas come in many colors and even some prints for very low prices at big box stores. When you are tired of the bandana, the dog can wear it.

I am not a shorts lover but I have three pairs (plus one below knee pair of pants ) and they have all had lots of wear this summer. I love olive shorts - perfect contrast level on bare legs.

Yes, having an "arty" capsule and an "adventure" capsule for S/S really resonates. I've never come up with descriptors for them, but it became clear to me early on in my S/S wardrobe building endeavor that I was going to need two separate tracks -- one focused on utility and range of motion, the other focused on breezy natural fibers in simple loose silhouettes. I always seem to have plenty of warm-weather clothing these days, as it's both my short season and my favorite to shop for, so my main goal is simply to rein myself in. I can probably justify a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals, a couple tees or tanks, and perhaps a dress or skirt.

Like Suz, I also had adventure skirts back in the '90s, and liked them a lot! Mine were midi, white and tan.

How about espadrilles, and some gauzy scarves in the palette? Or some punchy small silk ones to spiff up a tee. They might work as a band around your hat, or you can tie them to your bag.

I really like your ideas here. I am also thinking of embracing what you call Cos Minimal style for ss 2022. I just added a plaid pure cotton Tommy Hilfiger Button Down to my collection that I thrifted in Navy/Green/White with a thin blush pink stripe. Such great quality, new with tags made in Mauritius, for the princely sum the equivalent of around 1 US Dollar! Also my DH has some button downs that he has hardly ever worn - he grew out of them quite soon after purchasing - two in soft cotton denim; one light and one dark wash, as well as two colourful shirts, one in a pink and one in a green that I am hoping are going to work with cropped flares and straights.

I like the two styles you have chosen, Adventure and COS Minimal, and it looks like your planning has really come together and you are almost there and ready for summer weather. I'm still working on downsizing my wardrobe by wearing the "heck" out of what I have. I'm on track to get 30+ wears out of 18 tops (shirts, cardigans, blouses, dresses, tunics), so I won't be adding much this year.

This sounds like a great plan and if BR continues the heritage theme they reintroduced in F/W, you should be in luck for the shorts. I can also see a midi-A-line cotton/linen blend skirt adding something fun to the mix, worn again with those sleeveless tops.

Back in the 90s, I had two gored skirts of this type and wore them constantly! They were workhorses! One in oatmeal, one in black. The blended fabric meant they did not crease as pure linen would and the drape was delicious.

Since the 2021 retrospective of my style two months ago, I’ve been working at how to evolve through 2022. My response to pandemic dressing was to skew classic, and the theme for F/W was ‘elevated ordinary’ as I aimed for practical items put together with intention or getting dressed with some effort at styling. (Jeans, flannel shirt, puffer, hat - but in a column of colour.)

Summer, is beautiful in my part of the universe, and world events notwithstanding, I am feeling some optimism. S/S will be spent locally with a regular routine of walks and gardening, day trips around the county, and some travel to a Big City to help my mother as she transitions into her apartment in an assisted living facility. Maybe, a trip abroad in the fall? I am feeling adventurous!

With that in mind, I assembled the core of my S/S capsule (see Finds) https://youlookfab.com/finds/c.....tion=11040 created a Pinterest inspiration board https://pin.it/4kNvBny and made a list of what I need to realize by vision.

Since I prefer to keep a smallish wardrobe, I’m hoping a few well chosen pieces will work with existing items in my closet, to realize my vision of Adventure Style. The biggest need is for shorts. They are an essential for me in summer - but I am down to 1 pair. A couple pairs of Bermuda shorts (pics below) should work with T’s and sleeveless button downs I already have. If I can match the colour of my utility jackets, I can get the look of a ‘suit’ or matched set like in my inspo pics. Other items on my shopping list are:

I plan for a second/back-up ‘look’ that I call Minimal COS Style that consists of loose cropped bottoms, loose sweater or button down (worn buttoned up and untucked) and slides or flats. This will be my default ‘dressier’ pm style for things like bridge night or outdoor/patio dinning.
