How thoughtful of you. Wear that bag regardless of what other things you will be wearing, even though I do think it will look great with those colors. Their happiness at seeing you use and love their gift will be worth it.

Yes I thik the green could nearly be a neutral to go back with the reds, but also blues, orange etc... Have fun in London or at least the via! I totally agree about the need for a really practical bag to traverse the underground!

I would love to see it with the burgundy but I'm sure you have more in your wardrobe that goes with it than you think.

I love loden green, sage green, all those lovely warm colours that I can't wear. Thanks for giving me the idea of adding some accessories in those colours while keeping the main outfit in colours that do suit me...

I LOVE sage and red. I would go with it - and aren't you sweet to wear it for your in-laws!

My initial reaction was to ask why you don't build a capsule around an easy colour :)

Don't worry about the colour of the bag! Just wear it and have fun on your trip. Clashing colours are a statement.

I think if the red has blue undertones it would be fabulous with sage green. (Cherry red and sage green are one of my favorite combinations). I completely agree with Krista's color recommendations; plum, burgundy and wine tones were my first thoughts. I would even suggest shades of purple, indigo, cobalt, cream, or red-orange tones would work beautifully with sage green.

Very nice thought to want to use your gifts. Here is a color palette web site that might give you some ideas. I plugged in "sage" and "red" to see some options. Looks like it would work really well with reds to me.

How nice of you to want to wear the bag your in-laws gave you. I think sage could work as a sort of "pseudo" neutral for your trip, and it's a perfect green to pair with red and burgundy. You could always wear it inside your coat it it's pouring out. If most of your other clothes are neutrals, you should be fine.

I wouldn't take a suede bag as my main one for a rainy weekend... I would add brown to the colors above.

I think anything burgundy, navy, plum or gray would work with the sage green, Mander! As long as you stick to muted tones, I think you'll be okay. The bag sounds fab!

So I'm packing for a long weekend with the in-laws and I'm a bit stumped. I have a lovely sage green suede cross body bag (and matching scarf) which they gave me for Christmas a few years ago that I would kind of like to take as my main bag for the weekend, but the color is giving me problems. It's not a color I normally wear, but it is a practical size and design for a trip that will involve schlepping a bunch of stuff through the London underground.

Does sage green clash horribly with a clear, bright red? What about burgundy? Somehow all of my rain gear is in these two colors and it is likely to be quite wet. Or does the likelihood of major rain suggest that I am crazy for thinking about a suede bag for the weekend?
