I’ve always liked pins, and have quite a few. They can be too heavy for some fabrics, but i’ve read that a solution is to put a piece of felt inside the garment and pin through it and the garment. Haven’t tried it myself, though.

What a nice mix of sentimental favorites and your own picks! Now you have me thinking of how they could be worn in summer but I do see how the weight does not mix well with summer fabrics. Maybe on hats!

I love the leaves and of course the darling little bird. I wear my pins on a coat. I can’t put any on tees because they often wreck them.

Beautiful collection! Wish I had any. I used to have a couple like in your photo #3 but it wasn’t my style, too. I have silver earrings in a shape of a ginkgo leaf like one of your brooches.

So cool! You have quite a collection. I like bj's idea to use one to add a waist to an oversized tee, though I fear mine are not substantial enough to hold very long and would probably pop off and get lost!

Great collection! The organic shapes in the first set are so appealing and the bejeweled ones in the second are extra in just the right way.

I can see you take some of your band tees paired with au courant jeans and pin one or two or three on the waist band

Been using one to add a waist to an oversized tee instead of a gathered half tuck.

And such a great way to remember your mom.

These are especially perfect to pull out and look at in the month of Mother's Day, Janet. Loving their vintage integrity, and meaningful memories. Such beautiful nostalgia and sentimental feelings!

Aesthetically, I think the appeal in the collection. So pin a group together on a garment when it feels like the right accessory :)

Oh, I love the ginkgo leaf! My mother had a maple leaf dipped in gold (she was Canadian) that I loved as a child. Having your mother's jewelry is a wonderful way to keep her with you.

Inspired by Ket’s recent post, I pulled out my little collection of brooches/pins as I was straightening up my jewelry yesterday. Thought I’d take a pic of the collection just for fun.

It’s getting very warm here, and I think pins lend themselves to more cool-weather fabrications, so I probably won’t put these into play until the fall, but still it was good to look at these with a fresh eye to see possibilities. Many of them need a good polishing!

Pic 1 - various ones I purchased myself, ranging from about 1990 to 2015ish. The ginkgo leaf is the newest. A couple of them can be worn as pendants as well.

Pic 2 - these were all my mom’s, ranging from the 1940s-90s. I wear some of these occasionally. I Iike the sword and the knight for a little unexpected detail — those were from when my mom was very young. I never saw her wear them in person but there are photos of her as a teen wearing them. And remember how popular marcasite was? She had a whole collection of those! I remember giving one of those to her as a gift. The tiny cat was mine as a child. The round one on the bottom right is actually a scarf clip.

Pic 3 - also inherited from my mom, these are more whimsical and not really fitting my style, also because I don’t wear much gold, but they make me smile and bring back childhood memories. I would wear the owl! The little Dutch boy and girl are articulated, which is a charming detail.

Ket, thanks for the inspiration!
