Wow to that name for dark blonde hair! It makes 'dishwater blonde' or 'mousey' sound almost good by comparison. (I like to think of it as sand coloured, myself.) I don't get why it's socially acceptable to call that shade mean colours...I mean, no one calls brown hair 'poop coloured,' do they? Off my soapbox now. I almost never see anyone with my hair colour here either, because they all seem to dye it. Not sure how common it would be without hair dye!

I get your ebay sizing concerns. I always ask for lots of flat measurements & compare them to clothes that fit well, which has worked for me, but there's definitely more risk attached.

Thanks everyone! First of all, I've already packed the Marmot jacket up for return shipping. I do think that I can find something better fitting for the price if I decide to go with a more expensive rain jacket, maybe even the JW which is comparable price wise. The slightly too tight hips and the long sleeves are a dealbreaker. Seems like the vote was for the second or first one anyway.

@Caro
That's good to hear, that I manage to look great in a rain jacket. Not so sure about that myself, but if you say so...

@Eva
My haircolour is usually very kindly called Straßenköterblond (junk-yard dog blonde). You know, it's a very common hair color here in Germany, but you never see people with hair like this because everyone who has it dyes it. As for the pictures with the hood up - I think my head looks tiny if you can't see all the hair... it looks so strange to me.

@Marmee
Between the first and the second one I would say that waist definition is probably similar IRL. They both have slight tailoring, but not that much.

@Kelly
The lone voice for the Marmot! I really haven't decided anything yet besides sending the last one back, I find this very difficult.

@Beth Ann
Yes, I definitely want room to layer comfortably! The SA in the JW always brought me the jackets in size S, even though I had told him I wanted M. I could close the smaller size up just barely, but I was feeling like a stuffed sausage in it. That shows that this is more of a fashion than a gear brand now, if the SA doesn't even consider what's practical on tour.

I voted for the jacket in pics 10-14, too, Astrid. I've been having the same difficulties finding a jacket for a trip in August. I have a OK rainjacket, but I can't layer underneath it. I wish i had purchased the one I have with a bit more ease.

The first two really read as gear rain coats to me. I still like the marmot the best. Honestly though, you can't go wrong with any of them as far as functional coats go. Curious to know which you choose!

I'm having a hard time seeing on my monitor, but I have a slight preference for 1-6 over 10-14 because there seems to be some waist definition in the first one. I have a poison eye for the Marmot branding on the last one.

Ok, without reading your text or other replies, I like the cut of the middle one the best (and your hair colour looks so similar to mine in those pics! have I mentioned my mother's side has a lot of German heritage? from the Alsace-Lorraine region). And you look adorable in all of the hoods. That's all I've got. ;)

Thanks Jaileen! I agree that a good rain jacket is a useful investment, but I'd prefer to pay not too much for it right now all the same. I did try to find something cheaper at the beginning, but it just wasn't anything suitable available under a certain price range. There are cheap plastic-y rain jackets for little money that keep you dry, but I wouldn't want to wear those as my only jacket on a trip! So I have to find some compromise.

Thanks Carter. If I order the first one in black I'd always have the option to return it again if I feel like the black doesn't look as good. I agree that it's pricey, it's because it's Gore-Tex, you pay for that. All those jackets usually start at 200-250€. I also could keep looking, maybe I find something else that's more affordable. But I don't want to wait too long either, I won't have time for much shopping right before the holidays because I'm going to have exams around that time.

Thanks Lyn! Yes, those prices for gear are crazy, right? I've also looked in outdoor stores with different brands and even the house brands started at about 100€ (for a not very robust looking jacket).

I think I like the first jacket the most - but man, those are expensive rain jackets I hope you find one you can like for years and years and years!

If you're ok with black, I think the first one in the larger size is pretty awesome. Even on sale, I still find it pricey though. That's close to $300 US.

The thing about a good rain jacket is you can wear it for years. I've had a North Face goretex jacket for more than 15 years. Mine is big so I can layer fleece and down under it for skiing, snowshoeing, etc. It was expensive then, but the cost per year is negligible. I really appreciated it when we were up in the Pacific Northwest and it rained every single day.

Yes, that sums it up. I like the navy too, but I have a few other things I want to get before our holiday and the price difference is 80€, that's a pair of new nice quality shoes! If the difference weren't as big I'd probably consider it, but this is a bit much just for a color that's a little more flattering.

Thanks Alasse! Not sure how often I would wear it in everyday life afterwards, but there are always occasions were a rain jacket is handy and I plan to keep it for a long time. I would be alright paying the 170€ to get the first one in black, but the navy color is over the budget (I wanted to stay under 200€). But It might not be bad to have it in black, I think it might even look a bit 'dressier'.

These are the other two rain jackets I mentioned as an option in the other thread here. I went back to the stores and took the jackets into the dressing rooms to take some pictures. Of course the pics out of my phone are crappy, so keep that in mind when you compare them with the Marmot pics.

#1-6 is the Schöffel Gore-Tex jacket in size 38, #7-9 is the size 36 for comparison. The smaller size is too tight in the hips, although it fits better on top. I'm not wearing a big layer underneath the jacket in the pictures, just my tee and cardigan. This is the navy and it's 250€ at full price. I could order the bigger size in black online for 170€.

#10-14 is the JW jacket. The color is a dark navy just as the other one, the color looks off in that weird lighting. It also looks very shiny here, not sure why. The fabric has a bit of a shimmer to it, but it didn't look like that outside in the store. I do think you can see the difference in quality though, compared to the first one! This one is available online for 120€.

And last but not least, the Marmot again in #15-20. This one is 130€.

A lot of pictures, I know, but how would you decide? Thanks for looking.
