I usually use our doors since they are white. We have no white walls either. Just make sure everything is focused and then you can make adjustments later.

I was wondering about this. I take terrible photos. DH takes the photos. We do not have white walls in our house. All my WIW take place outside except one in front of the construction zone.

However, I really want to do this so I will figure it out. Slowly. But I will figure it out. DH will not take pictures of all my clothes.

For custom finds, I hang my items on a white wall in our home and take pictures at the right time of day (enough light but NOT direct sunlight). My iPhone 6 Plus has a great camera and I can adjust the colour and exposure so that the photo item looks as close to the original item as possible. I also crop the pics so that the white space is uniform around the item. That way the "catalogue" looks neat and organized.

A white sheet. That might be the answer for me. I will pay more attention to lighting as well. Thank you, Suz and Deborah. Very helpful.

Sterling, I'll have this problem too, in that we have no white or off white walls in our house -- all is colour. So finding a light background will be tricky. I might simply lay a sheet on the bed to do it.

For lighting -- again, in my house ensuring adequate light is often difficult. I sometimes simply use the flash and then make tiny adjustments to colour and exposure to get it as natural looking as possible. At other times of year, Deborah's trick (for my WIWs) works just fine -- light from behind the camera provides enough light for the photo. It all depends on the sun's angle here.

How about your phone? I think the lighting is all important. I make sure the light is coming in behind the camera.

I am not using a DSLR camera. I am told it is a very good camera (gift), but my skills are very limited. I literally point and shot.

The only reason I would hesitate to add my custom finds is my picture taking ability is questionable (at best). How do you get the background so pure? Do you take pictures against a white wall background? I know there are programs that allow you to photoshop the background out, but I never felt they were very good. It looked very much like a four year old did it with crayons. So I take pictures, but I would be mortified to post them.
