Oh, I'm glad that you posted these all in one place like this! Thank you! Just so much fun to see your outfits - I love your style - and you look really great in all of these. Because I'm a sucker for a pair of jeans and a white tee - #5 is probably my favorite of the bunch! Also, I was going to tell you that I saw on pinterest that one way to deal with the shifting of a slick blouse/shirt under a sweater is to wear a tank over it (to hold it in place) and then put on the sweater. I haven't tried this yet - but it sounds like it might work, unless you get really hot with that extra layer!

What BJ said. Amazing! You can really see it all so clearly with the album covers spliced in. I love how you did this! I am in awe. You have a terrific eye.

BJ, it's funny that you mention the two shirts because I was actually considering using the Santana one for Alanis! It's one of the few things I own with that orangey red in it, but in the end I decided the purple watercolor floral was closer to the mood of the Alanis cover.

diana, all of your interpretations were spot on. i really admired how you did the santana cover. as a non-print person, i would normally consider the shirts in 2 and 4 basically the same, but the way you used them really emphasized the floral romantic element in alanis and the tribal ethnic quality of santana. really really well done.

oh I was so busy this week, that I did not get the chance to see wed, thurs and friday. I love them all. I think my favorite is the dark side of the moon inspiration. The rainbow colored scarf is such a lovely contrast against the strict black and white. Simply wonderful.

Your intepretations are all fab! I especially like how you used the zebra tee for the Abbey Road cover. So clever! My favorite is the colorful Supernatural-inspired look in pic 4.

Commentary and details:

1: Abbey Road

Ok. I am traveling and currently have a tiny capsule of four tops, 2 jeans, 1 skirt, 1 pair of non gear shoes. So I'm really pleased with myself that I managed to come up with an abbey road outfit! Zebra tee for the zebra stripes and my bootcut (close enough to flares!) jeans.

Edista tee, Lucky Sweet n Low bootcuts, Frye Veronica Shortie boots

2: Jagged Little Pill

Like MaryK, I had the perfect print in my closet, so this was pretty easy. My watercolor floral tee perfectly evokes the purple and green shades as well as the watery lines of the album cover. I added the plum colored handknit shrug since I didn't want to freeze to death. And of course I had to wear my Docs. I don't really have anything in the rusty red on the album cover, but I think the cherry color of the Docs is close enough.
(Funnily enough, although I am back home now, I actually had this tee in my travel capsule as well, but I didn't end up wearing it because I decided to do Abbey Road yesterday at the last minute.)

H&M tee, Vince Jeans, Doc Martens Clemency boots, handknit shrug

3: Dark Side of the Moon

I see that Suz and I are on the same wavelength today. I also chose to wear a white shirt (mine is silk with grey pinstripes) under a black sweater with black skinny pants and boots today. The pinstripes on the shirt are like a reversed version of the thin white lines on the album cover. The silver zippers on my boots also suggest these hard-edged geometric lines. For the rainbow part, I am wearing a large multicolored handknit lace scarf.

As an aside, this challenge has finally gotten me to try layering a button down under a fitted sweater, which I've been meaning to try for a while. I like the look a lot but am finding it rather fussy as I wear it. The shirt wants to bunch in weird places (since it's kind of oversized) and because the silk is so slippery there is no friction to prevent the sweater from riding up and shifting around.

BR merino sweater, Joe Fresh silk blouse, Gap Ultra Skinny pants, Dolce Vita boots, handknit scarf

4: Supernatural

This one was surprisingly difficult for me. Although I love patterns, I don't have very many tribal-inspired patterns, and my closet is very heavy on the blues/cool colors but not so much on the warm colors. I like the finished product but I'm not sure it really reflects the album cover very well. And I'm kicking myself for forgetting to add my orange scarf!

I picked my tattoo-style rose-print tee because the orangey reds of the flowers reflect the bright oranges of the album cover, and the green leaves remind me of the foliage at the lower left and right. I topped it off with my cobalt blazer to bring in the other predominant tone of the inspiration, the saturated blue. My cognac boots also suggest the warm orangey tones. Finally, I added a vintage embroidered belt, because the bright colors and small, busy print reminded me of the artwork as well.

Tinley Road blazer, Bleu Claire tee, Gap SBF jeans, Miz Mooz boots, vintage belt (gift from MIL).

5: Born in the USA

Like many of you, I've interpreted this album cover quite literally, with a white tee, faded jeans, and tough belt. My jeans are 100% cotton, faded blue, which seems very American to me (although sadly I'm pretty sure Gap does not actually make its jeans in the USA). Since my belt does not have the hardware that Bruce's belt has, I added my big silver and crystal necklace. Perhaps surprisingly, I do not have a red scarf, so I brought in the red with my cherry Docs (and my red knit hat as a prop!).

I think the tee version is more true to the inspiration, but since I am also interested in not freezing to death, I popped my cream cashmere sweater on top.

Gap tee, Uniqlo sweater, Gap 100% cotton SBF jeans, ??? belt, Doc Martens Clemency boots, ??? necklace.
