Wow, you're brilliant. I looked at that cover and got nothing. I think you've totally got it, captured it.

Yay, I loved that song, too! You nailed the vibe. Totally agree, I had never heard a woman get that angry in a song before (and wasn't drawn to them because of that). I know there are some more obscure punk type female leads, but that wasn't my sound... I was actually pretty disappointed one day when I saw her on a talk show insisting that she wasn't an angry girl. lol I guess I just wanted more You Oughta Know!

This is a duplicate of my post in the Picture Perfect Challenge:

I took my inspiration from the video for You Oughta Know where Alanis is dressed in black and white. My ipad blocks it but I'm wearing a knotted Celtic pendant and on my fingers, some chunky rings.

Jagged Little Pill had a big impact on my teen years. It wasn't my favorite album but You Oughta Know was the first time I had heard a female voice that was _so_ angry and so in pain. I had heard female rockers before but they always seemed more sexy and provocative than angry. It's unfortunate how she first got labelled as fake because of her pop beginnings and then later, because of her massive popularity, a clichė.

My favorite song, though, is Perfect. Even as a teacher years later, I played that song for my kids and it hits very deep. Especially in Asia where it's still not uncommon to hear parents calling their kids "stupid" as part of a scolding.
