Staysfit, such sweet suggestions—thank you! I especially appreciate the instructions on swak that doesn’t smear. But the cookies are unlikely to happen—came up with three recipes that I thought met their preferred nutrition profile for a box of Christmas cookies, and included a list of the macros in the box. They ate nearly all of one kind for breakfast, got a tummy ache, and gave the rest away!! But origami and a thinking-of-you postcard are sweet.

In addition to the ideas already provided, I enjoy humor that doesn’t poke fun at anyone. Puns. Or some sort of inside joke shared with the person turned into something relevant you give them…

Additional ideas:
How about a piece of origami tucked into a card?

Always seal your card with a real kiss……light coat of fun colored lipstick, blot lips and mwah! Kiss the card! It leaves a fun lip print that will not smear as long as you remember to blot first.

Foods from local venues or favorite places you have been and learned of over time, For example, I live in NY so local maple syrup is a frequent gift. I am from Michigan so I also like to send Cherries from Traverse City Michigan, or fun foodie gifts from Zingermans Deli (expensive).

I have sent warm, just out of the oven cookies and coffee to the nurses at the hospital timed for their staff change meeting when they will have time to grab a few. (there are bakery businesses that do this). I bet you can arrange to do this from a distance as well and it would be a huge and welcome surprise.

I find that a unique card is a good pick-me-up. Sometimes I will add a little surprise inside like a sticker or bookmark. Also, since I enjoy stamps I will use a stamp that reflects the individual

Aquamarine, I learned my lesson about condolence phone calls when I tried to call someone who’s brother had died. I hadn’t planned out what to say beyond “I’m sorry”, so after about 30 seconds, that phone call got reeeeeeeeeeally awkward.

Kkards, I always think I’m good at gifts that connect with the person, but your example about two different kinds of lottery tickets has a good lesson for me in noting details that matter.

Sloper, hard to make H&D fruit personal, but I like the postcard idea, since I live somewhere this friend considers exotic.

Honestly, I’m happy with a text or card/note.

I’m less happy with a phone call if the person calling only wants to talk about themselves. <cranky today>

As Kkards says - something that shows you know me (or that I know you) - a book, specialty food, or even a postcard with a supportive/kind/joking comment on it.

I agree - just taking the time to reach out is always appreciated!

DH is a big fan of sending fruit & food baskets (he likes to send Harry & David baskets).

i like to receive things that show that someone has actually thought about me. So for example, if give me a power ball ticket i know that you know me because I’m always joking about it, but a scratch off lottery ticket, well it just shows you don’t really hear me
on the other hand, just knowing that someone took the time to reach out and send me something is usually enough to make me happy. Oh, and anything chocolate (but without nuts) is always appreciated

What’s your favorite pick-me-up to give or receive for/from a loved one who’s far away? Something that requires less work for the recipient than a bouquet of flowers. Could be as simple as a really good gif
