Thanks everyone - great tips. I'm checking out the sites Sarah and Khris. Bananas? I've never heard of that one :-)

Anyone have any tips for makeup for a photo shoot? Just my normal one? Heavier than usual?

I echo the above whole heartedly. No patterns and choose colour. I've just helped a client with a photo shoot and she wore a retro burnt orange jacket (her best colour) and it looks amazing. Also, opt for something classic or retro so that your outfit does not date. Music helps too!

Good luck :0)

I think no patterns/graphics is the rule for professional photo shoots. A textured jacket with a color other than black or white could show your personality better. Color block also works. I'm not so sure about the accessories, but smaller high-end jewelry might be good. I would give Michele Obama as an example. There are a bunch of websites with her style I'm sure.

From the few photo shoots I've had, one thing I remember the most is having fun while doing it shows as confidence in pictures. Eati a few bananas before the shoot makes the camera anxiety go away.

I think that simple lines/solid colors show up best in photos. You want it to be about you, not your clothes. Can you do both black and whites and color? Here is our photographers site- you can look through some of her pictures (and see my kids) online by clicking the side bar

I'm not a photographer, but I just puruse photography blogs and sites and see what stands out best to me. Here is my photographer's blog. She just had a baby so the recent entries are mostly baby-related. But click back a few pages and maybe you'll find something helpful.
When we got our photos done, she recommended that we both don't wear white or match outfits. She likes working with color (especially accessories) and textures. She also likes shooting dresses and skirts because they create movement in the photo.
We changed three times. I wore a black dress with red shoes for the first set, and then wore jeans, heels and a white top and brown jacket (with a black scarf) and jeans, graphic tee, and cardigan.
Good luck!

I am doing a photo shoot for a website I'm creating. I am an executive coach and want to come across as professional but also as me (classic with a funky edge). I will definitely keep it polished. I am torn about black and white or color. I also prefer photos that seem more naturally posed vs. super posed like formal headshots (like I used to have on my acting resume).

I would appreciate any tips you have for photo shoots overall.

And I would especilaly appreciate any tips you have for photo shoots and clothing. What tends to work best and what not? Layers, patterns, colors, textures. I can of course wear tons of things and try but I will have limited time. Thanks so much!
