I agree the advice is totally wrong, but I will say that if you are petite and have good legs and are under a certain age, 3-5" inseam on shorts really is the most flattering. But NOT to work - totally inappropriate!!!

I'm just saying.... I am 5'0" and I have good legs. When I was younger, most shorts looked completely dumpy on me unless they had 3-5" inseam. But now that I'm in my 40s, even if my legs are still shapely enough, the skin just isn't the same, so I prefer longer shorts - to knee or just above - they really have to be streamlined and form-fitting though.

Other than walk shorts, I have ONE pair of short-shorts. They are khaki, 3-5" inseam, hit at my natural waist, no pleats, and are from Jcrew - about 10 years ago!!!!!! I wear them quite often in the summertime. They are my go-to shorts when we go boating on the weekend or work around the house.

(Oh and they are a size 2... which today is equivalent to a size 0 in Jcrew! Vanity sizing at work!!)

Hilarious! Thanks for sharing Becky. I had a good old laugh. Sounds like an Aprils Fools post to me.

Glad you see the light ladies, not for my sake, but for yours!

I also read that this morning and don't agree. When I see those length capris on people in real life I always think they visually shorten their legs. I think it has the same effect in the photos she used as examples, despite the models' high heels.

I totally agree with Ana. I was reading this morning and thought it was crazy to recommend mid thigh shorts for work! And I also disagree on the length thing. I'm with Angie all the way !

I think that advice is completely wrong. I would never recommend that someone wear shorts with a 5" inseam to the office, I don't care how casual it is. And Bermuda shorts don't make you look shorter if they are streamlined and simple.

Look at the advice given for a petite today on Style Bakery (http://daily.stylebakery.com/a.....ylebakery/):

"Q. I'm 5'2, usually a size 2, and I'm trying to figure out what length of shorts or capris will be most flattering. I don't want to look stumpy or shorter than I am. I think I have pretty nice legs for a 30 year old, but also want to dress appropriately for work, vacations, or for chasing around my infant son. - Short Sized

A. For petite gals like you, the longer the capri pants, the better. Look for styles that are straight leg styles, not wide, and that hit just above your ankle. This will still give the impression of length. I just picked up two bright pairs from Club Monaco, one teal and one red that can easily transition in look just by swapping flats for wedge sandals at night. They are an ideal length and style.

As for shorts, skip the long styles and choose shorter lengths, specifically ones that have 3-5" inseams or ones that stop at mid thigh. If you have good legs, then don't cover them up with Bermuda or walking shorts since those will just stunt your height. If you intend to wear shorts to work, then opt for a mid thigh pair and be sure to pair the shorts with a conservative top like a button down shirt tucked in and a fitted cotton or linen blazer."

Am I misunderstanding something, or is this the exact opposite of the advice Angie gives??
