My belief is that it has less to do with personality type, and more to do with self confidence, and to some extent environment. A confident individual with a creative and supportive home or network of friends is more likely to be innovative with fashion than someone who lacks self confidence, or where the environment is repressive.

It is an interesting thought, if I think about my friends who are more influential/fashion forward (as opposed to well presented and elegant) they are mixed between introvert and extrovert (in my opinion from the outside).

I can think of a good friend who has a way of putting accessories together and finding second hand bargains who I believe would be extrovert. Another friend I know identifies as introvert and has a gorgeous fashion forward more expensive wardrobe that I find inspiring.

Well now that’s an interesting question. The originators and the popularisers may not be the same people either...

I always see articles about this - who starts trends - but never gave it any thought. I look back at junior high where there were a set of sisters who seemed to start trends. They were not in any clique nor had any air of exclusivity. On the contrary, they were perfectly ordinary, friendly. But they had an older sister and very congenial, encouraging parents. My perception is that they simply checked the stores out a lot and shopped typical main street stores. Now, where they got the idea for the white lipstick - yes, it was that long ago - I can't figure out. But plenty of us copied them, not wanting to be like them - they were simply some of our friends - but wanting to try out the styles for ourselves. On the other hand, all 3 sisters and the mother sported the same unusual style of bangs and not one of us wanted to try that. They had four tight rolls of bangs, in a sort of square, and otherwise very, very long hair.

That's a good question! I'll bet it's both. The quiet innovators who catch the eye of the extraverts who themselves find new ways to wear the interesting thing?

After reading DonnaF topic on myers Briggs personality types it got me wondering, what “type” is most influential on fashion to start trends? What kind of person is most likely to start a trend?

Is it the outgoing people who mingle and party but usually wear what’s “in style”,
the shy; reserved people who have their own unique sense of style,
or someone in between not quite outgoing but not shy and mixes it up with style constantly changing?

I always thought the outgoing, party people were most influential because they advertise and make themselves known and some people might think popular is what we must follow to fit in, but I’m not so sure so id love to hear what you all think!
