I have this one which I purchased this year because of riding up, arms rubbed completely raw until bleeding etc. I purchased it here at MEC but I know it is also avl in the US. It is made for women.
http://www.mec.ca/product/5024.....0004+50643

Thanks again for the great suggestions. I struggled through with the bulky, too-tight vest over the summer, but really enjoyed kayaking. So I just splurged on the Astral Linda at REI. It is comfy, has a thin breathable back, two pockets and I love the bright colors.

Hurray for Athletic August!

There are also PFDs that are flat and only inflate when you pull a cord. I've never tried one and they're not recommended for water sports where you right a high risk of being hit in the head like sailing, but I'd think they'd be perfect for kayaking.

YES! Thanks Ceit, that shape makes a lot of sense. (Available at LLBean in the US too).

I was kayaking and had a great time, except for the annoying ancient PFD I borrowed. It was bulky, rode up, and got in the way of my paddling. (Plus it was not at all attractive.) At the risk of descending into Jr. High humor, at 36I I already have a couple well-placed flotation devices. Can anyone recommend a good PFD for gals that would cup and support with no squishing, riding up, or limiting my arm movement? Some type of front pocket would be handy, and a bright color for visibility.
