I think I'd mostly pair them with white tops for summer which would tone down any boldness. Nude shoes or shoes that bookend your hair would be good but silver or pewter or white would be nice too. Also for tops, I was also going to suggest pink - hot pink could be fun but yes, it would be bold. A more muted pink - grayed pink could also work well.

I think Angie's Blog today shed some light on these jeans for me. While they may be ok for my age (Thank you Firecracker, binkie and Aziraphale for weighing in on this) I think they may be too bold for me. I think I may have been confounding too youthful with too bold.

I will try them on again with a few of my tops -- maybe in the light of day I'll feel more comfortable -- but I think they will likely go back. Although a brighter or more colorful top would likely look great - La Pedestrienne I love the idea of an orangey red & the lime green or coral that binkie suggested I can't imagine going even more bright. I also can't swing the denim on denim.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think these jeans are a trend -- I haven't seen any like them anywhere else. I think they fit in with the "non-standard denim" trend, if that's a thing. You know what I mean. Jeans that have something unusual about the wash in some way.

As to whether a 50-year-old can wear them: why not? They are very casual, like pants you've been painting in, but that's the appeal. The cut is neither girlish nor revealing, and those are usually the only things that I'd advise against if you're not extremely young.

I'd personally wear them with black shoes, but that's because I have a strange attraction to very light blue jeans with black footwear.

I'd wear these with a bold geometric print top -- stripes, chevrons, something that would contrast the soft mottled look of the pants.

Also, they'd be perfect with olive -- like a field jacket or bomber jacket? I think bronze and gold would be great too, either as shoes or accessories. Or even a metallic tee?

A top in bright orangey red -- tomato or persimmon -- would be super summery.

I think they are cute, and if you are really drawn to them, you should be able to come up with things to wear them with and enjoy them. Sometimes it takes a couple of fool-proof outfits before I start to warm up to a new style of some sort, and then I seem to see combinations coming out of the woodwork.
I'm with Smittie--my first thought was denim on denim: I'd try a chambray shirt or a simple tee and denim jacket.
You could go boho with them, playing on the tie-dye effect, by pairing with a bandana print or paisley top.
They are fine for any age--they are jeans, after all--and being the straight-legged released-hem crops, they are definitely on trend.
I hope you'll show us some outfits you come up with!

I saw these at the Rack and loved them, but they didn't have my size. I would treat them like white jeans, which I don't wear but thought these could substitute.

Oops just to add - true/dark navy tops, a crisp white shirt, cropped tops so that you can show off all of the lovely fading effects. And these could be dressed up too! I can see these with a sequined tee, or beaded jacket.

And to contradict what I said above, depending on your style, in the autumn you could get rock n rolly with a sequin tee and velvet blazer ( I'm 57 and obviously dating myself to the glitter era!

Great jeans for spring and summer!

For tops - how about a striped sailor top in red/white. Bright colors like lime green, coral, rich rose. Strong tones can contrast nicely with the lighter jeans. Maybe not autumnal colors or pale tones. These are still jeans despite the fading, so they can act as a "neutral" like regular jeans, just with a more summery vibe. Navy, as you mentioned, and white (doesn't have to match the tone in the jeans). A bold print that you like, but not a tie-dyeish print.

Shoes? White or bright sneakers. Sandals of course. Again, you could go with bright colors! Not a fan of peep toe boots myself, but they would work if you like them. All kinds of shoes seem to work with jeans, to me.

These are totally fine for any age!

Well, I this type of thing and think it goes well with non-black footwear. The first thing I think of is Birkenstocks. Definitely a very casual look.
I think they'd look with a plain white t and a denim jacket (yes, denim on denim!).

I am perplexed by these jeans.

1) I purchased them thinking they would be a fun way to wear jeans and a colorful t-shirt or simple blouse, but I can't figure out what to wear with them except navy blue and maybe white (although there isn't any white in the jeans, only the lightest of blues). I can't figure out what shoes. I thought they would be as versatile as regular jeans and I'm drawing a blank.

2) is it going to be weird to have 50-year old me in these?

3) are these an older trend? I bought them at the Rack so I don't know if that means they are a trend that has been around for a long time or not?
