Well I actually am attracted to these looks! Now the middle one is not figure flattering in any way (leg shortening trousers and oversized coat), but I am drawn to her animal print shoes, fascinated with her big earrings and glasses together (of course we don't see how she looks from the front), and find her interesting to look at. Similarly I love the shoes and details with the first one. The third, where we see her front view, seems very polished and deliberate. It is possible that my reaction is despite the length of the pants - it would be interesting to see the same thing with a longer trousers.

Really appreiciate reading your thoughts ladies.

Ruth I couldn't even open the link because I remember Steve Urkel and its just too disturbing! lol

Angie I really love how you recommend guidelines but you are still open to the possibilities of something working when maybe technically it shouldn't.

Aida, yes I think that's what it is. There is something edgy and alternate about this look to my eye.

Intertesting comments about the 'nerdy-ness' as that's not what I see:)

And don't be concerned as I am not about to rush out and recreate any of these looks. I actually find I feel uncomfortable in a crop pant, like I am not properly dressed! But the whole matter of cropped lengths fascinates me.

I agree with Angie, this is not a flattering length. Deborah, you might be drawn to these partially because they DON'T follow the rule, you know?

I prefer when the cropped length is a little higher on the leg, where the calf is at the widest part.

It's a VERY hard length to pull off - but not impossible - as I've said many times :)

None of these lovely ladies look great in this length of trouser and *HOW* they are wearing the rest of the ensemble with this tricky length (to my eye anyway).

Personally, I find these particular outfits unflattering.

I don't care for this length. Even the women in the photos would look better if the pants were longer or shorter. To my eye it looks like they outgrew their pants.

I don't care for the way the first two ladies look in that length but for whatever reason the third (patterned pant) seems okay. I think it's the total outfit that gives the first two a dowdy/nerdy look to me.

It works to my eyes because all three are paired with super fab flats. It also embraces a certain geeky male chic, which I like. I don't think it's figure flattering, necessarily. It's not meant to be.

Yes, these ladies seems to be all very slim, long legged and tall.
BUT thinking it opposite-so not only what's and how's shortening, but what's and how's showcasting, you'll find maybe a new way to expose some beautiful, shapely, slim anckles- even if have more thicker tights, knees or hips...
I sometimes do this look especially with boyfriend jeans for casuals, but I have straight leg white jeans also, which I roll them just that once -and very slim-not like the boyfriends and wear them with flat casual mary janes, as I find my anckles are lovely:-))
(hope that didn't sound too narcisistic:-))

Maybe the women who manage to pull it off have long legs and/or the personality that goes well with looking nerdy. I just never could do the "high water" look, and honestly don't appreciate it enough to try.

Ruth so not going to "shoot you". I am genuinely interested to know what you think. No question this length can be leg shortening but I find myself curious as some women seem to be able to pull it. Thanks for weighing in:)

This is my own personal opinion, so don't shoot me! I think this particular pant length looks awful. It reminds me of the character Steve Urkel from the TV sitcom "Family Matters."

There's a sort of studied nerdiness to the look. In the first instance, her socks might mitigate the leg shortening effect.

Hmmm.. not sure. I'm guessing that it might depend on the figure type of the person. You certainly appear to have longish slim legs from what I've seen. It can have a leg shortening effect and you would have to be careful what shoes were put with them. Sorry can't be of more help, see what others think.

The first two photos (from The Satorialist) are in my inspiration file. The third is from Style Sightings (I think). I love this look but I am wondering what we think of this pant length. It seems to be very popular "on the street" so to speak. Of course we have no front view of the first two and cannot see how the outfit works sans coat.

I actually just donated a pair of Ponte pants that sat at this length... wondering if I should have kept them:)

Is this length the no go cropped length? Does the taper make it more palatable? I am still an eager student wanting to fully understand ppl.

If you have time I would love to know your thoughts.
