Late to the thread but pleased that my comment helped you. I have a couple of items like that - they are fine but they do not excite me. I try to not buy anything without being thrilled but I do have a couple of lingerers.....

I love the plaid pants on you and you have already had great advice. It is a bit tricky pairing shoes with pants and jeans at times - and sometimes I only have one combination that I like. I sometimes wonder about the lean capsule wardrobes where in theory they have lots of combinations but in reality some just don't quite work.

JAileen - yes! I am fortunate to have some great pieces, without question. I just have to figure out how to put it all together.

Smittie - they ARE tricky! I took a few pairs of skinny jeans and hacked them at the ankle bone last fall to wear them with booties. But, my booties were low shaft - not unlike a sneaker, I guess - so it worked. Now that I have a couple of shaft heights to choose from I get stuck.

Suz - thanks! I dropped the cognac trousers at the donation center this morning! I will stick to wearing my loafers and low sneakers with the plaid pants.

Jules - Very tricky. Once I can write down which shoe(s) works with which skinnies, I should be set. Then, I can go from there! Interesting I don't like patterned skinnies with tall boots, either. It looks weird to my eye.

Funny that skinnies and booties were both dominant in the same period. Totally agreed that they are difficult to pair, though not impossible. Both can vary quite bit so a match is possible, but definitely not an easy go-to formula. Since I almost always wear skinnies with tall boots, patterned skinnies never really made sense to me - I'm often drawn to them, but the relatively small block of pattern shown between tall boots and long shirts doesn't really work. Luckily these plaid ones have enough length and looseness in the ankle that you do have some good options.

This was instructive and helpful -- thanks! I really like both pants and also thought the cognac pants would be perfect with an inch chopped off, but if they don't thrill you, onwards. Love the plaid pants with the fun yellow flats and in the first 3 photos.

Yes.

I agree with Angie on all points, although I think the western booties also look good with the cognac pants.

Bijou - yes to preferring jeans! I get a lot of wear out of SUPER casual pants (like joggers), but chinos or nicer tend to get abandoned in my closet.

I guess it makes sense - a cuffed jean or cinched jogger makes shoes super easy; an open ankle hole sends me into a panic!

Nemosmom I prefer jeans to pants too. I have some pants, but only dressy pants - as soon as I have casual pants, I just prefer wearing jeans. So there it is. No casual pants for me and I am happy that way! I like them on others, but feel a bit off when I wear them myself.

Glad Angie spoke about the lengths. I thought the yellow loafer and plaid pants looked great together - but you need to feel great when you wear them.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks, Angie! Pants feel so strange!

I wore both pairs around the house for a bit yesterday and decided the cinnamon ones weren't worth putting back into rotation. Sal said something that resonated with me recently, "The blazer was not exciting me and I wanted to be thrilled", I wasn't thrilled with the pants (or the idea of paying for a hem in hopes of becoming thrilled), so I will donate them while they still have life left. The plaid trousers loosened up a bit with wear so they aren't as clingy. I will stick to wearing them with my low vamp flats and sneaks.

I appreciate everyone's input!!

Too sick to give any intelligent analysis (*waving fist at my daughter and her contagious colds*) but I wanted to pop in to day that I'm glad I inspired you and that the exercise is worth it! I've referred to my list of which shoes go with which pants everyday this week. Like you, I find tops easy to pair, and jeans go with almost every shoe, but pants are where I need to figure out out in advance!

Thanks a TON, Angie! Are the plaid skinnies TOO small/snug?? I fear I'm veering into painted-on plaid territory.....

I think two more inches on the cognac trousers would result in them being TOO cropped for fall/winter, which is the only time I think I would reach for them.

Nemosmom, lengths are my thing.

*rubs hands together in excitement*

Plaid Skinnies: (too tight to be cigarette)

Pics #1, #2 and # 3 work!

#4 and #7 not as good.

#5 is good, and the yellow loafer is best - AGREED. That's because skinnies like some sort of low vamped flat/heel best that showcases skin. OR a tall boot equestrian style. Booties and skinnies are tricky. Booties and straight legs - especially when they are cropped - are easier.

Cognac Trousers:

Low vamped grey bootie in #1 works well!

Blush flats in #3 and #4 are good too, although ideally you need to crop an inch off the pants (TWO inches above ankle bone is a good guide). Actually these are a little too long to be fashionably cropped :)

I thought I would jump into SarahD8's challenge for prompts today by styling a pair of trousers. Trouble is, I got stuck on which shoes went with either of them, so I surrendered to the familiarity of my jeans.

So, inspired by Roxanna - I decided to try my trousers with the most likely shoe(s) to be worn with them and try to build an outfit from there. Adding tops are easy enough - it's the shoes that trip me up every time.

Can you all help tell me which (if any) of these shoes work with the length of these two pants? I have a horrible eye for PPL, so I am shooting for Perfect Enough Pant Length.

First, plaid cigarette leg trousers - I like them best with the yellow loafer (and flats not pictured), but do any of the boots work?

Second, cognac trousers - these have been in my holding zone for a while. Are they too short to be considered fashionably cropped? They look way too short with flats (to my eye), and they appear to flare out oddly over the boots.
