COSTCO! Like Walmart, only on a bigger scale.

I don't even blink anymore at all of this. The only thing that drives me mad recently is professional Danskos with jeans worn too short (white sock visibility).

shedev, love you in this white vest.

great observations. the formalism of casual! so who's to say the "slob" was not following a planned ffbo, rather than a "thoughtless" outfit.

I have been a constant people watcher since my early 20's. I love to just observe the style of others and notice the way some walk with such confidence while others shuffle with their heads down...

I think where I see the most questionable style choices is at Costco. Otherwise, as I've mentioned recently, people in my unsophisticated town seem quite pulled together. I do some work with recently released felons and even they are largely color coordinated and extremely clean, even the homeless ones. I don't know how they do it.

I mean no offense, Peri. I'm not really young or healthy. I have Celiacs Disease. Pain is a part of my daily life, including joint pain. I use insoles to increase the comfort of my shoes. We also have a ton of shoe choices now days. There are loafers and oxfords and sassy sneaks and probably many other choices. I cant wear the dainty flip-flop type of sandal, but the Clarks I got today are comfortable and look nice to me.

I'd like to beg some forgiveness for the ladies in their "trainers". Maybe they are clueless...but maybe they can't help it. Maybe they are injured or have arthritis or are facing a knee replacement. Maybe that's the only way they can do enough walking to shop. Maybe that's why there is a disconnect between their shoes and the rest of their outfit. Maybe they are me.

You are lucky if you are young and healthy and get to decide your whole outfit based on aesthetics. Not everyone is lucky.

I just think that there are people that do casual really well and its not the same as going out in PJs or looking like you just grabbed something off the floor and threw it on.
I didnt see any intentional slouch and not even a semi tuck. I did see plenty of nice dresses with sandals and a few people dressed similaly to me. Someone told me that my vest was very stylish. I get a lot of nice ( ), where'd you get it, but since I tend to like unusual items, I dont get a as many in style comments.

HAH! Rachy! I was thinking the same thing! High five Overly casual dress is so deliberately thought out these days - it's a formality.

That's a lovely colour palette, Shedev. It's nice to see burgundy worn in the warmer months.

I spent the day people watching. Thinking about the nation of slobs thread, I wanted to look at both ends of the shopping spectrum. I started off at my local thrift store. The shoppers were mostly older and mostly frumpy. There were a lot of white trainers that seemed disconnected from the rest of the outfit.
My next stop was a larger thrift store in a more suburban area. The patrons were a little better dressed, but it still had its fair share of frump.
My last stop was the Nordies sale. There was much less frump, but there was some.
A few thoughts.
I saw people at all the locations wearing nontapered capris that came to the wide part of the calf and nontapered crops.
Footwear was the biggest difference between the best and worst dressed. I saw a woman wearing a nice tank, vest and jeans, then ruined it with 5finger vibram type shoes. Saw a fair amount of crocs with nicer outfits.
If there are both intentional and unintentional slouch, then it is fair to say there are intentional and unintentional casual. I saw a guy who repeated the green and black of his nikes with his sh
