I do see that that's true where I live. I live in the city of Albuquerque, NM, which style-wise, is somewhere between a suburb and a city.  I notice a trend towards slightly smarter sneakers and athleisure over the years, which I am guessing applies nationwide. People used to wear any old T-shirt--perhaps one advertising a local pizzeria, with beat up gym shoes. (Those were other suburbs I lived in/visited in the past, not Albuquerque.) My daughter and her friends never leave home without a full face of makeup, which can take up to an hour to apply. Their hair and nails are always done, and they love wearing plenty of perfume! When it comes to outfits, they keep it simple yet stylish. Their favorites are shorts, flowy linen pants, cute tops, and short summer dresses in neutral colors. For footwear, sneakers and ballet flats are the go-to choices—no Crocs here! They even like high heels for going out. To add individuality, they accessorize with lots of jewelry and nice bags, creating unique and personal looks. As for older generations, it’s more difficult to generalize. At work, the styles are quite diverse, and the city is a blend of locals, tourists and immigrants, many of whom wear traditional clothing. This mix makes for a vibrant and varied fashion scene. Heels (mostly sandals) at DHs PhD grad ceremony (in the city), but not much elsewhere. I suspect there are a lot of boat shoes over at the country club, but haven't been there since spring. Shorts, shorts, and more shorts. Mostly short denim for ladies under 60 or so, long shorts for older ladies and men. Some short skirts and skorts. Very few pants/jeans, but it's been over 90 degrees most days. Nothing really notable with tops, just tanks and t shirts. I've been seeing tons of braids these days- French braids, Dutch braids, double braids- and lots of ponytails. Less wild colored hair than previous years, excepting at Pride festival. Lots of big eyelashes still. Dresses have gotten shorter at retail. Been there as a youth. Now I scour consignment shops for longer dresses with sleeves to wear here. I have lots of sleeveless but no sleeves and it is a topper or sleeves for church. I have other rechoirments for dresses like pull on shifts, no back zipper, no wide or low neck, knee length or longer. Interesting :)  Not here in Seattle. People might wear low heeled boots (like I do, with a 1 and a 1/4 inch heel), but generally dressy shoes are flat. I only see people in heels at Nordstrom - and occasionally at an evening restaurant. Seen some casual platforms too. But very rarely! JAileen, crocs and socks are definitely a thing! So are Birkies and socks. I forgot to add that I see lots of jeans - all relaxed. And scent is a thing with Gen Z around here too. Lots of perfume and cologne! I see them here - as a part of the office attire worn in our Financial District and worn with dressy outfits in the areas with clubs and restaurants in the evenings. The Gen Z generation here LOVES beauty products, having nails done, make-up, eyelash extensions, and designer bags - but worn with sweats, short shorts, pj bottoms, caps, cropped tops, crocks, Birkies, socks, hoodies, BIG jackets, and super tight short dresses.  No bras is a thing here too.  Older than Gen Z is a bit of everything. Lots of Athleisure and shorts (tourists mainly). VERY goth, rocker, rainbow hair, body piercings, and tattoes - typical Seattle city look across the ages and genders.  Notably:  Far fewer leggings - shorts, joggers and sweats are more popular. Some Gen Z do not like showing their feet and only wear socks and sneakers all year.  Not going any further into this discussion.. I don’t have a lot of tweens in my life, so while I know that white socks are having their moment- I was clueless that oversized crocs were the shoe of choice to wear them with! sneakers are everywhere And I mean everywhere, young, old and everyone in between. It’s unbelievably hot and so I thought I’d see a lot of birks, or this being Boston, boat shoes because I thought they were trending. Honestly I don’t think I’ve seen a single boat shoe, but sneakers of every color and style. Long shorts are in short supply but gym shorts are everywhere. As are novelty tees. And has the hoodie been dethroned by the quarter zip? What are you seeing where you are?
