Ha, I'm in a discussion about pencil skirts for pear shapes on another forum as we speak.
I'm a pear and *personally* find that higher waisted pencil skirts that taper in at the knee are the most flattering shape on me.
Here is an old, blurry, distorted photo of me, but this is my favorite skirt. It's INC from last year sometime. It's a high waisted pencil.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_JA8_.....eb+025.jpg
This shape works too, but any wider and it looks funny.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_JA8_.....eb+003.jpg
I dont' know for sure, but I'm thinking my waist length may have something to do with it.
Can you sew a taper into the skirt, like in my first picture? It has a vent in the back so I can walk like a normal human being. :)
PS: I *think* what makes the taper work is that the hem length goes to my knee cap.

I'm working on sewing (and trying to perfect) a pattern for a pencil skirt. I'm a pretty pear with my widest spot being my upper thighs (just under my bum). I'm trying to figure out the most flattering fit. I've read advice from Angie that says the skirt should fall straight down from your hips. Does this still apply to those of us who carry their weight a little lower? If I have a skirt that falls straight from my hips it's too tight in my thighs.

Are my options are straight from my widest part, or investing in shapewear to redistribute the jiggly bits to improve the line of the skirt? What do you think?

I don't mind showing off my curves, and I have a strong shoulder line that does help balance my lower half (the width of my shoulders is almost the same as the width of my thighs)

Thanks!!

Christine
