I am a rectangle with apple tendencies and pencil skirts are my favorite style as long as they are long enough, especially when seated. I like a skirt in a substantial fabric and prefer woven over knits in general so that they are not clingy but skim over any lumps and bumps. My most favorite is a dark denim knee length with some stretch.

I wish I knew this a few weeks ago. I just got rid of some nice Eloquii pencil skirts size 16/18. Have you looked there? I had good luck with them last year.

Pencils that fall straight from the hips and are not very pegged at the hem work best for me. Agree on the sit test to be sure it doesn't creep up. Also, think about how the waist fits and be sure it doesn't want to ride up over your tummy to become sort of empire waisted. This will be extra problematic if you are shortwaisted. I am rectangle with apple tendencies so that riding up under your breasts thing can be annoying. I tend to have the best luck with either a Hollywood waist or, oddly, a wide (2-3 inch) waistband. Thinner bands cut me uncomfortably.

I think apples can look great in pencils, because they fall straight from the waist. My one bit of advice would be to make sure it's comfy in the waist. Oh and also do a thorough sit down test, crossing your legs to see if you're comfy with the level of exposure. Skirts that are demure standing up can really surprise you during an important sit down meeting! The knit skirts ride up less.

I have a challenging request! I'm an apple with a very pronounced tummy. I've always shied away from pencil skirts, but gosh, they're so sexy! Would love to at least try one. So:

1) Any other apples had luck with pencils? Any features I should look for/stay away from?

2) I wear a size 16 or 18. Can anyone recommend a cute pencil skirt currently for sale that I might try? I understand that I'll probably need to buy for my waist and then have the rest altered, and that's fine.

Thanks!
