I suspect that politicians and public speakers and the like are either putting on the skirt right before they go on stage, or they are choosing the fabric carefully.

My cotton pencil skirts -- even the lined ones -- crease. My other woven pencil skirts do not. I haven't looked at fabric content, but they must be woven polyester or somesuch. There are probably also some wools where wrinkles will fall out easily.

They don't sit down. I do agree with the others that the creases are normal with some fabrics. Don't worry about it, the skirt looks great!

thank you ladies for affirming that the creases are a normal part of woven pencil skirts. How do professional newscasters, politicians, etc. then remain so crisp?

I am back to comment on the outfit, which is lovely. I really like the romantic print worn together with ruffles, and the gilet is like an icing on the cake.

That's such a beautiful outfit on you!
My pencil skirts also crease, that's the nature of the shape of the skirt. Your flower skirt makes for a happy outfit.

Yup, as a big pencil skirt wearer, I say the creases are unavoidable. Just think of them as part of the look. I try to make sure there is some stretch to cotton fabric if I choose it for a pencil skirt, but that doesn't always help either. Wovens are worse than knits, but most of my pencils are wovens so they crease. I live with it too. I haven't had a single person comment on the creases, and I get lots of complements when I wear them. Most people look at the big picture when you put together a great outfit. You are more likely to look at this detail.

Cotton skirts will crease like that. I wouldn't let it bother you. The outfit is great!

This is probably more work/money than you'd want to put into it, but underlining with silk organza cuts down on wrinkles in a big way. I mean, it even works on linen. But it does mean the skirt would need to be taken apart, the underlining cut, and then the whole thing put back together.

I wouldn't worry about it -- if you crumple or fold cotton, and then apply pressure to it for hours (that's what happens when you sit during a workday), creases are inevitable.

The plus is that the skirt is patterned, which will help disguise some of the creases.

The only "prevention" I know is to do a wrinkle test when buying (crunch up a fistful of the fabric and give it a long, tight squeeze, then let go and see if wrinkles fall out or if the material crumples and stays that way).

thanks, Tanya and El Cee. Maybe I should have stayed away from cotton as I bet that that's the most crease prone material.

I agree with Tanya. There is not much that can be done about the creasing issue. I think it has to do with the fabric. All my woven pencil skirts crease. My knit ones do not. I have learned to "make peace with the crease"

That has happened to me as well and I feel there isn't much that can be done. It happened even with skirts that are a little big so i do not think it is the matter of tight fit on the hips.

I recently purchased a floral cotton pencil skirt from J Crew. I sized up to accommodate my thighs so it is a bit big in the waist but there was no pulling when I tried it on. However, after a day of work it is heavily creased at the upper thighs--these creases come from sitting, primarily. Anything that can be done about this? Today I am wearing my gilet over it to hide the creases ;-)
