AH! There it is! Frustrating for all of us since we rely on the photos to get a good idea of the shape of the garment. Particularly with arm holes, I want to get an idea of whether they will show my bra or not. Sigh.

Oh, there it is. I had to click on the blue paisley color and then look at the front view to see the right picture. Now I feel even sorrier for models - not only do they have to stand there and look cute for hours, they have to stand there with laundry clips stuck up in their underarms!

Thanks for this, celia! Like you say, we know clips and the like are there, but it helps to actually see it. Yes, there are good reasons why they need to use clips, but it's also helpful to realize that even the model wouldn't necessarily look good in every piece of clothes that she models—it makes me feel better about my own body! :^)

Yes, way up under her arm - they probably didn't think it could be seen there. However, they commonly use clips like that when fitting gowns and wedding dresses and then do alterations or order another dress based on measurements. While I do agree that it would be nice to know how the garment looks without alterations, arm holes are tricky things that can easily be too big or too small depending on the person. I can understand why they sometimes have to alter the look on a model. We know EVERY store does that for photo shoots, so Old Navy isn't unusual or anything.

I sort of "hosted" a photo shoot the other day in the historic building where I have my studio. The model was teeny tiny, most likely a size 0, and the dresses to be modeled were probably a 4-6 -- almost big enough for me to wear. They were clipped up her back to fit to her body, and even though I know this is done all the time, it's still weird to see all this excess fabric and know that the dress does not look at all like that final photograph will represent it.

I don't see it so they must have edited the photo super-quick. This happened a bit ago with one of the fashion spreads in a sewing pattern magazine I subscribe to - you could see the blue clips fitting the garment to her. It's even more egregious with sewing patterns - in theory they could make the sample garment any size at all to fit the model (I suspect they just make them all in the same size and then adjust when the models show up, because they're short on time).

I was browsing( who me?) Old Navy site and found it interesting to sneak a pick at the peg holding back this shirt:
http://oldnavy.gapcanada.ca/br.....=968326023

Just wanted to share because we all know they are there but usually photoshop hides them.
