Joyce, I once was able to touch some banana silk. I remember it being similar to recycled sari silk yarn--so soft, silky, yummy goodness. The video I linked said banana feels similar to cotton but this blog post says it's silky. So I'm going with my experience and the blog post review on this one. Banana fiber yarn is very strong! It has similar strength to cotton and linen yarns. Might be worth trying?
https://thecraftytherapist.com.....rn-review/

J'Aileen, I have thing for kooky, so I was delighted to see fruit motifs for knitting. There are all sorts of crazy and wild things in the knitter's world. There's an entire octopus sweater that is quite complex and advanced to knit. I'm not a huge lover of octopuses, so likely will not knit one. But people have! https://www.ravelry.com/patter.....us-sweater

Jaime, I could see you sporting a cute pair of fruity socks That would be fun and unexpected. So, I didn't knit these items. I grabbed the photos from their respective Ravelry pages. one of these days I might attempt a pair!

VioletMyra, how cool! You perhaps could find a knitter to darn them for you??

Lisa, thank you!! I really do want to sew this year. Life has been wild and crazy, but I want to make it happen. Will report back :D

Carol, I wish I had bought more of the fabric. I only got 3 yards. It's s sizable amount, but not gobs. Nevertheless, I intend to use every scrap! I'm so glad my post inspired you! I really enjoy including links and photos when I can or have extra time. One of my favorite things in my librarian career was managing the special collections. One part of special collections was all of the magazines. I LOVE flipping through a good magazine. I know some of the time the recipes aren't very good, too many ads, poor advice, etc. But idk... I just love a good magazine. Always have. I saved every single Anthropologie and J.Crew catalog I ever received. (No longer have them; my parents accidentally tossed them during a deep cleaning after I moved out.) So anyway, that is a high compliment to have my post compared to an article. Thank you <3

Angie, YES! I also loved their roll-on lipgloss, which I had completely forgotten about until I went a' googling. I know I said passion fruit, but looking at various images, I think my favorite was the tropical fruit flavor?? (It's only been 30 years... ha!)

Thank you for the boost about the fabric and blouse pattern. I'm hoping I can sewn this winter! I think it could be very fun to wear!

Wow, Ket--that pear fabric is great. After making a shirt, you can line you cabinets, make curtains...

This is such a good post that reads like an article. As a sometimes writer, I am taking notes about putting in more links, photos, etc. into my own posts. Makes it fun and informative.

I have a pair of hand knitted penguin socks (100% wool). They're getting thin from wear but until they go into holes I'll keep wearing them. Best wishes to all.

This is such a great post, Ket.
The pear fabric will become a fab top in your hands.
I am loving your fruity knits and I am curious about the fruit fiber yarn, thinking it may be similar to fique or jute but not as sturdy? Or could it be similar to linen?
I have done my share of color knitting but have not yet done fruity patterns, now you got me thinking about them.

Cute pear fabric! It's going to look charming in that blouse, Ket. Good palette on you! Fun items to knit too :)

And I remember the gloss that came in a TINY jar with a screw top. I LOVED the smell of them. Had a stash as a teen and young adult. I think strawberry was my favourite.

Angie's latest blog post delighted me! I"m not much for wearing veggie prints, but I'm delighted by fruit prints. My favorite prints would include peaches, pears, or plums--if they can be found in retail or sewing fabric. As it happens, I found a beautiful pear print fabric. It's a bit kitschy and even kooky, and I am excited to sew it into this blouse one day soon (photo 2).

There are also some delightful fruit themed knitting patterns that I've kind of eyed. The thing is, I don't know if I would enjoy wearing fruit mittens or banana socks the same as a pear print blouse. Don't ask me why. And yet, they amuse me. So anyway, if you want some knitting ideas, here you go.

Photo 3: Fruit Mittens
Photo 4 U-Pick Mitts
Photo 5: These Socks Are Bananas

There's also a lovely knitting podcast called Fruity Knitting. They don't knit fruit. I actually don't remember why their podcast is called Fruity Knitting. If you want interviews with the top yarn and pattern designers, fabulous techniques, and more, it's a wonderful podcast.

And there is even yarn made from fruit fibers!!! Banana silk or banana yarn and pineapple fiber yarn are both two alternative plant yarns. I have not knit with either at this time. Perhaps another Fabber has?

One of my favorite memories of fruity style is Naturistics fruit flavored lip gloss in the 90s. I was only a girl but somehow convinced my parents to allow me to wear barely tinted lip gloss. It came in glass pots with screw-top lids. I really loved the passion fruit flavor, despite not knowing what passion fruit was or ever having eaten it. Now, passionfruit is a wonderful fruit flavor I enjoy eating.

Thanks for letting me indulge my fruity side :D
