I also wish I had shorter legs, which fit into regular length pants, but then, I know some of you lament your more modestly proportioned legs.</p> <p>In the end, I'm just grateful that my body functions fairly well. YLF made me accept my pear shape, but most people don't think the same. I experienced the same things you mentioned - people thought I was putting myself down when I said I was pear shaped. I was half amused, half horrified that the advice for "pear shapes" was written in a tone that basically said, "You poor matronly cow, here's how to disguise those fat hips and thighs." </p> <p>I have struggled with my admittedly slight pear tendencies ever since I was an adolescent. Even now, when I am much more accepting of the way my body is simply made, I am still a little amazed when people lament their *lack* of hips (i.e., Shiny's recent thread). I think "pears" have gotten some sad messages in the last century, ever since flapper style celebrated boyish bodies. I hope this is changing. I noted that as a pear, I was trying to get out of the mindset that making my butt look smaller should be my top fashion priority, and the instant reaction I got was, "you're not a pear shape!" They thought I was putting myself down - i.e., calling myself a pear shape was like saying "I'm fat."<br /> It made me realize how far I've come in terms of accepting my body shape. It also made me realize that "pear" is still not considered a compliment by everyone. </p>
