I've had my eye on those PG's as well. Love the wingtip. I think between the lower heel, lower shaft, and detailing, these are an entirely separate category than your SE's. Whether or not that category fulfills a specific wardrobe need for you -- well, that depends. :)

Thanks to everyone for such thoughtful and helpful responses. I will try them today with various pants and skirts. The one thing that may be an issue for me is unfrumped's observation..."note that the shaft and little tab thing are only good with wide enough hem (for long pants. )" This is something that I will have to consider particularly with jeans. Jenni's comment that with two somewhat similar boots she would probably just stop wearing the higher heel was interesting to me but probably in my case not so true. Almost all of my shoes/boots have a 2 1/2" heel which I'm comfortable with but recently I've been thinking that it would be nice to have a small collection of lower heels/flats. I am so impressed by the quality of PG. Will report back with my final verdict!

You can try them one in each foot and see them side by side. I think PG always outshines the rest, it is a very well made shoe that is comfortable and wearable.
The only possible minus would be if you wanted them for a year or so, that is not going to happen, they will last for a very long time and will outlast the other pair no matter what you do.
The shoes that you are showing look different from each other.
Let us know what you decide.

For me, I can't wear heels the height of SE anymore. If your feet get tired or hurt at all, the PG would be very helpful. Is one much more comfy than the other, or does one heel height work better for your pants? You may split wears, but if the shoes are in your wheelhouse, I wouldn't hold back from super comfy shoes at a great discount that fit your style.

Wow. I was going to say of course buy them!!! Then I read Jenni NZ's comment and I heard the wisdom in her voice. I too would end up splitting wears and it wouldn't pay in the long run.

As an owner of 50 pairs of shoes, I don't feel a good person to advise. This is the sort of thing I do, buy the second one as well. I have my eye on a flatter tan bootie when I already have a great one with a heel. IF I do that, I know what will happen- I will stop wearing the one with the heel. If it were me in your position and I bought the new pair, I would hardly wear the first pair. You may not have this issue, but they are similar enough that you are likely to "split your wears". Also, although I also love wing tips, it will be you that notices the difference and others are unlikely to notice I suspect. The price is great, and there is also likely to be some "sales goggles" wearing involved as you suspect. Obviously your decision, and whichever decision you make you can be fully informed. My thing is, it is hard to get round to wearing 50 pairs. You may not have nearly so many!

I got these in August and have not looked back. Yes, I gulped but PG gets me feet really well. I got them for lower heel too.
I'm wearing with tights and skirts and some pants but note that the shaft and little tab thing are only good with wide enough hem( for long pants. ) For crops of course they are fine. I say all that because I mostly wear full- length pants so am clinging to some older Munro ankle boots with very narrow shaft that works with even fairly slim pants even though the Munro " last" is not as good for my foot shape and I polrobably won't buy more of their footwear .

I would tend to enable you at this price, but I still think it's best to consider what you want and need, so you don't buy these just with sales goggles and pass up something that is better but more spendy and worth saving up for.
Since I think booties have longevity, and though fun to play with trends, I'm happy with a kind of classic simple look as a basic, so I am focused on FitFitFit and PG keeps hitting the mark.

Not sure what the right answer is for you but shaft height is a big distinguishing factor in shoes in my own outfits. FWIW, I'm pretty sure Angie has these and raves about them.

I'm not that committed to branching out color-wise. It's what I wear. I've branched out a bit lately but these really caught my eye because they're classic and because of the quality. Also I have no other wing-tips.

I guess I should also say: it depends on how important it is for you to branch out from black.
For myself, I am pretty committed to not buying black at all anymore, so I wouldn't buy these. But they are sooo nice!

The Paul Greens have a lot more flair than the SEs, IMO.
I would put them in different categories. I would so jump on them!

Walking through the shoe section at Nordstrom Rack I spotted these chelsea boots which, unbelievably were marked down from $365.00 to $139.97. I have a pair of black chelsea boots (Sam Edelman 'Justin' that I like very much but they have a 2 1/2" heel and a higher shaft making them more boot-like while these seem more shoe-like. Also these have the wingtip detail which gives them different look. I do have a preference for black footwear though I've been trying to branch out a bit. I love the quality of the Paul Green's--they really are beautiful shoes but I'm trying to decide if I really need them. On one level I think they would fill a different purpose, as flats, they are very comfortable. I also think that I might wear them further into the spring since they are less boot-like. Or is the drastic markdown effecting my brain (i.e. "sale goggles"). My question is--would you buy a second pair of black chelsea boots when the major difference is heel/shaft height? I originally walked away from them but then returned to the Rack this morning to try them at home.
