SF, the other dress is navy! Go for it! They actually have it in black in other sizes, but I’m not sure I want to wear black to my niece’s wedding. One of the rare times I would have preferred navy.

ETA: I just clicked through to see that navy dress and it’s now only available in a 6 or 14. If an 8 or 10 would pop up I’d try it.

I had my eye on that floral dress because I saw it online but the pattern placement makes me sad. The dress looks great on you in every other way. Your pea coat is such a happy color. The other dress you show is my size, but I don’t wear black. I like the style though, especially the top part.

Janet, you crack me up! Your WIW is absolutely fabulous. That vibrant turquoise is made for you. And the lace-up booties make the outfit interesting and personal. You look like you are off for a walk and you are busy! Stripes add fun. Lovely outfit all and all!
About the dress: oh, my! I am with you 100%. As Suz says, it's not so much the fact that there should be a print there or not, but the fact it's so obviously two panels of fabric that didn't belong side by side! It may have been done on purpose because one flower probably made the silhouette look off balance (placed on one buttock only?) Yet it would have looked better.

Lovely dress but I think once you see these pattern flaws you cannot unsee them. I have a dress that is reversible floral and I have to wear it one way otherwise all I see are two large flowers on my bust.

I think a more random placement would be better in this case so I would either get another one with better placement or pass.

I had to stop at the mall so I popped in WHBM to check out the dress. It’s really even prettier in person. I looked at each one they had and they all had varying and random flower placement. Some are better than others and one seemed perfect. If you really like it, try a different store to see if you find one that isn’t so obvious. And yes I did try it on. Couldn’t resist. Love it and might have brought it home if they had my size.

ML, I feel like the color is not quite right -- to me, the warm color and gold studs sort of fight with the cool color palette and organic lines of the lace in the dress. I don't know -- perhaps I'm being too particular? Part of me would rather find a dress that looks fantastic with the shoes than buy new shoes! I like this dress well enough, but am not so in love with it that I wouldn't consider something else.

Interesting that most people see the pattern issue as a problem, but Jussie and Angie differ! :-)

Angie, it's not obvious in the photos at all, but the dress is a bit long from shoulder to waist -- the SA noticed it too. It bunches up in the back when I am standing normally. It's got quite a bit of length in the skirt portion, so I think even losing an inch of length overall would not hurt, and it would still fall just below the knee on me. It's possible that a bit of weight loss would help the regular size fall better on me, but that is not going to happen overnight.

That dress is lovely, but the pattern placement would bother me. It isn't because of flattery (the dress looks great on you!) It's more that I would feel they'd cut corners and it would bother me in a dress of that kind to be walking around with that feeling.

Love the other dress you show, too, by the way. Too bad I have less than zero need of such an item.

I echo, Jussie. I personally see no problem with the pattern placement, although I get that it bothers you, Janet. As gradfashionista says, it's a very random thing during the manufacturing process. I cannot see the reason to order the petite from the photo though. Really? The length is going to be too short in a petite

I saw that dress shopping with a client in WHBM yesterday. Really nice, and suits you well. It's SO nice to see you wear a light colour/pattern.

I had to sign in out of curiosity to see what you meant here by pattern issues. It’s a beautiful dress and fits you well, but that would drive me crazy. Fortunately, because it’s WH/BM, I think that if you ordered several additional versions, you might luck out and find one that’s more suitable. Or call CS at a B&M store and ask them about the flower placement of the dresses they have in stock? More likely than not, it’s random. Good luck!

I hope the floral dress you ordered has a better pattern placement and I would not buy a dress if it did not make me fee fab. I love the other dress you picked, it is very sad that they have sold out of your size because that dress looks more your style.

Wedding shoes are hard, because you are on your feet a lot. Very wise to not settle with something that looks great but kills your feet. I have done this way too many times only to wear the shoes once.

Pattern placement can be bad enough sometimes to seem like a mean designer's joke. I saw a beautiful bathing suit recently in a subtle sepia woodland toile print, and would have ordered it--if the pattern hadn't been arranged so a large tree trunk extended from crotch to neckline. Strangely disconcerting! Too bad about the dress, I hope you can find another, even prettier. Agree with everybody about that stunning peacoat!

Jenni, ha! I am having a horrible time trying to find dressy sandals in a simple metallic or even black to wear with the dress I bought. It seems ALL the dressy sandals now are cut the same — one narrow strip straight across the front of the foot near the toes, and another up at the ankle. And I find it soooo boring. And not very comfortable. I only want to buy shoes for the dress if I can envision wanting to wear the shoes again, and nothing I’m seeing in a reasonable price range — or with a reasonable heel height — is inspiring me. I tried the two finds below, but there were fit and comfort issues with each.

Usually shoe shopping is not hard for me, but not this particular task!

Unfortunately some brands try to cut corners by skimping on details like pattern alignment. I usually order 3 items in the exact same size to try & get around this (then return the ones with the worse pattern placement). It isn't a foolproof solution, but it might give you better options if you really like the dress & the pattern is the only issue with it.

That dress is lovely but I see what you mean about the pattern placement, it would bother me too. The navy dress is so fab and I would order it if it wasn’t too dressy for the wedding I will be attending late April. It’s a ‘fantasy life’ dress for me.

I think you found live with but it would bug you. I’m sensitive to flower- butt myself. If you have energy to order different dresses since you want to try a P, then it might be worth it because you might find the fit is still not right and you can move on! Or that petite is pieced differently.

It's really not reading "here's the butt, here's the butt" the way some examples do and actually, because the placement is concentrated high and close to the center it's not unflattering either.

The ones that I find the most unattractive are the anatomy suggestive frontal placed patterns, this isn't that at all.
