She made this beautiful summer sundress in a tropical pineapple print. She was so excited to wear it for the first time. She got all dressed up, make-up on, ready to go. &nbsp;She looked at herself in the mirror admiring the new dress only to suddenly recognize that somehow she had placed a pineapple over each breast. Not kidding She said she never even thought about the placement as she was cutting and sewing away. There was ZERO ways to save such a fiasco, and she ended up having to scrap the dress. :} My friend and I laughed and laughed. The theme was “Rhapsody in Blue” to celebrate the centennial of Gershwin’s masterpiece. Rather than going flapper or Gatsby, I found a silk chiffon panel print at Mood Fabrics with an Art Deco influenced print.&nbsp;<div>Excellent technical skills development: self-drafting a pattern based on an ancient, handwoven, mohair pullover; working with silk chiffon, semi set-in sleeves.&nbsp;</div><div>Decided to place the body of the top across one full panel to maximize the print display. As the panel was 54” wide, I made an inverted pleat at the back neck. Sleeves took one panel each, as I needed to center them on the central repeat of the motif.<br />Outfit deets:<br />Silk chiffon panel print from Mood Fabrics (listing “navy peony butterfly silk chiffon”)<br />Acetate blend tank dress from Chico’s Travelers line&nbsp;<br />Blue d’Orsay pumps—ca. late ‘90s/early ‘00s. Found in the back recesses of our closet with a bunch of hubby’s old shoes. Fun surprise.<br />Silver treble clef earrings from Etsy (ordered, then realized I wanted a bigger statement for the event.)</p> <p></div> </p>
