I've heard of people doing these type of alterations, but I didn't think it would actually work - my thighs would never fit into my regular pants while I was pregnant. I have seen these. I have actually decided to try to be frugal this pregnancy and am having some of the jeans I own converted to maternity. It works beautifully and is much less expensive. However, I don't have a denim skirt I'm willing to sacrifice so I *really* want that COH one.
