What a fun thread! I don't have the finds but premium denim is always a workhorse item for me and I try to wait to buy them until NAS because that's when I find the best prices.

The finds below may not have all been NAS but were Angie recommended. All these have been winners plus some grey jeans from last year that I do not seem to have in collections. The jeans at NAS seem to be a thick winter weight, great for cold weather. I find that, because these items usually arrive months before I can wear them, that they are slow to be put in heavy rotation. I also have returned pieces that I still think about and wish I'd kept. My advice is to hang onto things at least until the weather is cool/cold enough to be able to wear them.

Traci, you're on a roll with excellent thread topics. Great to see everyone's successes.

So far, I've avoided NAS because crowds, and I haven't seen overlap between what I need and what's especially good value at big sales. The highlights in this thread so far , though, are making me reconsider!

I will say overall, I have two consistent wins, but I don't do much sale shopping. The leather jacket and these Frye booties are two of my favorite fall/winter things! The leggings I get some every year, the black booties unfortunately, I had to take them back. As cute as they were, they were killing my knees! :( They still make the hall of fame though. I still wear the leopard heels though, the gray and black with the dash of brown is such a good mix.

I returned or didn't order quickly enough a few items from NAS last year that would have been well-used this past winter. E.g. the Trina Turk coat that was backordered and ultimately cancelled (I did find a cheaper replacement from an overseas Etsy shop, which I don't fuss about getting dirty, so things worked out). So I'm in the mood to shop generously this time around, and make decisions more slowly.

Some of my past wins (I also still have and wear the stuff I bought last year, but it's too early to tell if they will be multi-season workhorses):
- Natori Feathers bra, which I discovered several years back during my very first NAS. I think I still have that original bra in the rotation, because I don't wear though bras quickly, although it's rather faded.
- Bernardo petite black leather moto jacket. In retrospect I might have chosen a slightly longer and less edgy style--so I'm open to adding another black leather jacket if the right one comes along this year--but nonetheless this jacket is a workhorse. I wore it the rest of the summer when I purchased it, as I was living in San Francisco at the time; a year later I moved to the Bay Area permanently and I still wear that leather jacket 50% of the times I go up to the city.
- Munro Robyn booties, bought on Angie's recommendation; I think I've worn through some of the arch support, but they're still comfy and haven't dated.

Thanks for sharing everyone, it's really nice to see what mileage people get out of these purchases! I haven't had much luck previously with the NAS but am hoping to pick up some black boots this year to replace a worn out pair.

I actually did live and learn. I bought the Sweetie moto boot (or the equivalent) at one NAS and returned them because I doubted I would wear. Regretted it for a year. Bought them the next NAS and turned them into the winter workhorse they became.

This is a wonderful thread, thank you for starting it. Wow, keeping a spreadsheet of my purchases made this so much easier for me.

The 4 toppers in my finds are still worn regularly as is a Kenneth Cole cobalt coat from 2009.

I purchased 2 pair of Lycee leggings, navy and denim look, which are still going strong.

The Louise et Cie oxfords I purchased 2 years ago are still in my closet but hardly worn due to the laces. Just don't do laces any more unless there is a zipper for easier on and off.

The 2 Eileen Fisher asymmetrical knit tunics are now winter sleepwear as they are too big.

And the two tops shown are long gone. They were purchased several years ago.

It appears I buy toppers, coats and footwear during NAS which have a longer lifespan.

Smittie, I'm sorry you missed out on that windowpane dress. It's so easy to wear and looks great. If it makes you feel better, I still occasionally brood over a cream Theory silk top from the 2015 NAS. I returned it as I thought it was too expensive, but at the end of the day, the cost per wear would have been pennies. Live and learn, I guess!

These wedge sneakers were a total wildcard but I've worn the heck out of them, to my surprise. And I always get comments on them. They're getting less wear now that I've moved away from skinnies and towards wide-leg crops, but they're definitely still in the rotation.

Fun thread. DonnaF and I have some similar favorites. All time most loved and worn are my Longchamp Pilage and my Skagen watch. Equally useful and very comfortable are my Nikes. My Alexis Bittar earrings haven't gotten many wears yet as they are a bit fancy, but I expect to wear them for years to come.

Fun thread! I didn't buy that much at NAS last year, but I did wear almost everything I bought a lot. One exception...a LBD I didn't have an occasion to wear BUT I am very glad is in my closet since I do not think it will date. There are other items (Halogen kick flares, for example) that I did not collect but were fantastic.

The pants and boots were workhorses and I know they will be this year too. The dress was for my daughter, who wears it to work almost weekly when it's cooler.

This year I need to update my bras before anything else. I'd also like a new puffer in a fun color. I'm sure there will be more "wants" rather than "needs" once I see Angie's recommendations.

Great topic! Thanks Traci for starting it so we can review... I made a find collection of everything I bought at my first NAS last year, and just reviewed it again. I returned more than half, and ended up with wins of with a blue print top I've worn quite a bit and a white top I've worn somewhat less. Neither are workhorses. Had a few fails too - a pair of Vince Camuto knit pants that frankly bagged out at the knee after only a few months so I stay away from that brand for knit pants. I got some bras that are pretty good although not quite sturdy enough for everyday wear, and some undies that honestly did not fit all that well although I thought they did at the time.

I'm planning to mostly sit out NAS this year, or maybe just look at leather ankle boots that work in slippery snowy conditions and I can size up to wear over warm socks, or the camel coat which has been on my wish list for a long time. Like Diana I don't think I can really think about fall/winter trends right now, it's too hot, so if I stick with basics I'll be better off. I'm also a little shop-weary at the moment since I had to buy some stuff for my recent trip.

It was my first NAS. I went wild ordering things. I only kept three things, as shown. The Pendleton coat fits great, but it is scratchy around the neck. It took me awhile, but I knit a matching scarf for it. I think I'll wear it more this winter. The North Face coat is a nice throw on and go coat. It's not super warm, but for car trips it's great. And I love the sneakers.

What I ordered:
Pendleton coat (in two sizes)
Laundry puffer sized up
North Face puffer (in two sizes)
Vince t neck
Louise et Cie silver oxfords
AGL grey patent oxfords
Adidas Stan Smith sneakers
Halogen cashmere poncho
Leith shawl collar cardigan

What I kept:
Pendleton coat sized down
North Face puffer in mid grey
Adidas Stan Smith sneakers
ETA: I also bought and kept a grey beret

I'll play!

Not all of these things are still in my wardrobe, but most are. The cashmere sweater got a lot of wear before getting too pilled to wear. The NYDJ ponte pants were a hit that are now too big; same with the flare jeans. The first 5 are all still in my wardrobe.

I've had a few 'bargain' pieces that were worth the price to wear for just a season or two but most of my wins have been from better brands.

In the past I've ordered too much and I plan to be very selective this year. It's a long time until I can wear true fall/winter pieces and I really don't need much, if anything. I will try to limit my purchases to shoes/boots, maybe a bag or nice piece of jewelry, and tops that aren't too heavy. Plus a midweight coat in a color other than black has been on my list for a few years!

What a great idea, Traci! It's worth looking to see if there are any trends...

I still have many NAS items in rotation in my closet. But the workhorse winners fall into two categories: Basics and more "luxury" type items, including footwear and bags.

By basics, I mean underwear and camis. I always stock up at NAS. I won't bother showing Finds for those. But they're among my smartest NAS purchases. :)

By "luxury" I mean those items that might be prohibitively expensive for me at normal prices, but often end up with a very low CPW once I have them in rotation.

Last year's big surprise winner was the Minkoff hobo. It was a surprise win because it was a hobo (I thought I liked more structured bags) and also because it's so large -- it might have been too oversize for me, yet somehow it works. I also bought a watch (not actually on sale but I bought at the same time) which I have worn every day since.

My "Sweetie" moto boot was the best purchase ever...I got them reheeled last year but alas, they are DONE now and I sorely need and update.

Oddly, I have had some luck with cashmere. The burgundy sweater has pilled a bit from a seat belt but I still love it. The cut is great. I have also returned a lot of cashmere items with tags still on.

I'm not sure I have any outright NAS "fails." I do have items that are seldom worn (e.g. the fabled gilet and my silk Vince dress) but both have closet longevity and will get more wear as the years go by.

ETA: These are from 2014, 2015, 2016 and I still have them all in rotation except the Sweeties and maybe the other booties need to be retired. Only because worn to death.

The floral lemming sweater is my all-time best NAS buy. I still have it although it's getting a bit beat up by now. Wish I could find another.

The 2 coats and the Pikolinos booties were from last year and I am very happy with all of them. Although to be fair I actually ended up buying the black trench directly from RL for a better price, so I'm not really sure it counts as a NAS item! (But I'm including it here because it's been included in NAS multiple years so maybe someone else might consider it if it's offered again this year.)

And the Frye boots were my very first NAS purchase ever. I had them reheeled recently and they are still going strong.

The floral sweater aside, I tend to mostly buy classic workhorse items (as opposed to trendy items) at NAS, mostly because I can't decide in the middle of the summer what trendy items I'm going to want three months later.

What a fun idea for a thread! Thanks to YLF, I have so many winners that I'm not going to list them all, but below are a few that either really stole my heart or are in very heavy rotation in my closet.

From NAS 2015, The NYDJ 'Ski' ponte pants are brilliant traveling pants and the Born booties are super comfortable, so both of those pieces have made several overseas trips.

I have the Trink Turk military coat from last year that still hangs unworn, not because of any lack of love but due to the warm winter. NAS always makes me wish I lived in a colder climate. :)

In anticipation of the impending Anniversary Sale I've been thinking about which NAS items have really come through for me. Since the finds feature makes it so easy, I thought I'd reminisce and invite you to do the same!

The items below are all still in rotation in my closet. Scrolling through made me realize I have quite a few cashmere NAS fails. They seemed soft enough on first touch, but when I actually tried to wear them they were either bothersome to my eyes, nose or skin:( The final find here, the EF lantern dress, is my all time NAS favorite. It's not still in rotation in my closet because I wore it to shreds.

Which NAS items became work horses for you?
