You are so right - they need to be items you will use not just ones that will sit in the wardrobe making you feel depressed. I started writing all the things I didn't buy in a list in my phone - it was amazing how much they added up to over a season. It made me realise I could spend a lot more on clothes I loved & would wear.

Thistle, your words hit it --"something so beautiful"'. A good reminder that beautiful and luscious items - really a luxury item- have a place in my wardrobe if it's the right item for me but not just to sit in the closet being beautiful and unused.

Sometimes passing on an item is hard to do, but right. If it was just going to become an orphan, no sale is worth it! Great job resisting!

Good for you! So hard when the item is so beautiful, but you are correct on all of your points. It is not right for your lifestyle, so best to leave it behind, regardless of what a good deal it was. If you won't wear it, and you won't , it's $139 wasted.

Never have owned a leather skirt, and it's not on any list I've ever made.

However...

Was in Marshalls and right there was a Tahari leather skirt in a kind of burgundy-brown color. Price $139 with regular label of about $800. Like a gold nugget amongst all the usual so-so items. Size 4. Hmmm.

I tried it on and I believe it fit. Maybe take up waist, if picky and if wanted to tuck in. Leather like butter. Just delicious.

However...it was about mid-calf length. A very tricky length for me, adds dowdiness factor and is a problem for footwear, which is already a problem for me with skirts at all; I mean as opposed to a just-over-the-knee length, which I would consider good for a leather skirt. Style and zipper-slit precluded add'l alterations even if I wanted to pay. Also it had a front slit, fairly high, of course would wear tights but was just a bit "suggestive" in its placement for facing off with patients, if you know what I mean.

I must say I was tempted to take it home so I could "examine" it further before anyone else bought it--just own it for a few days and then take it back. The color and quality of leather was enough to make you swoon. But in reality, I couldn't really use it; I could barely use a leather skirt at all IRL and would not expect to get enough wearings if not able to use at work; but I swear if it had been made a little differently I might have bought it, if only to pet it from time to time!

Anyway, this does remind me that there can be a place for leather in my life, as I learned with my leather jacket I bought last year, but it really belongs up top--jacket or vest--because then there I can wear many times, and what's the use of leather if you don't get to experience the feel while actually wearing it? I actually had a burgundy leather jacket from Nordstrom's in my shopping cart but am having second thoughts about the styling. Again, the skirt kind of helped set the tone for the "feel" of the leather and I would love to duplicate that in a topper.
