I think wearing a turtleneck with the jacket and pants will look great. H&M sizing is it's own. But it is pretty consistent for me. I just add 4 or 6 to my usual size and try those on; it seems to work. It will be interesting to see if you find more interesting ways to wear these pieces after the conference. I hope you will be surprised that they are more versatile and flattering than you think!
