I have two ponte knit skirts that I never wear because they are fully lined. Any benefits of stretch in the skirt, like a comfortable waistband that doesn't ride up, are negated by the slippery, non-stretch acetate lining. They hang well when I'm standing and don't stick to my tights when I'm walking, but they are so uncomfortable that I pretty much never wear either one.

I have been too chicken to just cut the lining out, but writing this out makes that seem absurd. Why not? I guess they might bag out in the rear if I remove the lining, but they were both inexpensive eBay finds so it's not like I would be throwing away a lot of money or ruining a designer item.

Or, I could just get rid of them because they aren't working for me. I do find it hard to do that, though, especially things that are just not *quite* right but not horrible either.

My lovely new snake pencil skirt It is a true pencil and man, you have to walk real slow cuz the knees have no room. I was annoyed before at the length of skirts being above knee all the time, but this constricting at the knee is an eye opener

oh, but I am not parting ways with it. Still love it too much.

Oh, that reminds me of another one! A nice basic cotton tee from Banana Republic. It was an absolute hair magnet - it would come out of the dryer completely coated in my hair (which does get everywhere), even woven through the fabric. Something about the way the cotton was treated must have made it absurdly static-y.

I wish cotton treatments had to be labeled - I'd rather not have all the toxic stuff they use to create no-iron cotton shirts.

I could make shorts, yeah, good idea. But I think I'll sell them to Crossroads to fund a replacement pair, instead.

Silk Blend Banana Republic Ana Cardigan. It always comes out looking stiff and creased from the wash, and the placket and neckline pucker, even though I wash delicate/cold and dry flat.

The one pair of skinny jeans I own...bought last year in an attempt to be more in style, worn exactly twice. I find skinny fit to be uncomfortable, not possible with my shoe issues, and just don't fit my life.

I have a beautiful Milly white pencil skirt I bought about three years ago. I had been searching a long time for one and was thrilled when I found this one with nice lined, good weight texture. It fit really well and off I went for my day. Unfortunately if I sit for more than an hour it creases and I just don't think it looks crisp enough. I still wear it but it drives me crazy. It's just not the look I wanted but I haven't let it go yet.

I've had more things than I can count that felt great when I put them on and by the end of the day I couldn't stand them! :( I usually notice by the end of the first wear or 2, or else it's because I didn't notice how worn a item looks, till all of a sudden it hits me. Have you tried tugging on them at the knees, or 'lightly' stretching the knee area when they are damp?

Recently it's been:

Anything with a cowl neckline - I'm too busy

Knit jeans - truly annoying - 'nuf said

Wide-legged pants - What was I thinking?!? Not good for petites like me

Pencil skirts - look great but aren't comfortable

Shoes with narrow/skinny heels - can't wear them after injuring my ankle

Fortunately, I never had too many of the above items.

I have a pair of jeans that look fabulous on me. Nice thick denim, solid black, make my butt look perfect, perfect legs (slim but not skin-tight).

Except, after a few hours of sitting at my desk, my knees hurt. The denim doesn't stretch enough at the knee, so they push against my kneecaps. And with all the abuse I inflict on my knees (Irish step dance) I absolutely can not afford things that might harm them.

So, after a few years, I think they need to go. I am so sad!

What are your surprising clothing failures? Things that failed in subtle ways that you might not even notice at first?
