I wore the blazer! Also, I found it on the website if you're curious.

I took a little walk this afternoon and threw it on with the black t-shirt and straight leg jeans from the photos as well as my Frye red ankle boots.

Can I get partial credit? I promise to find a way to wear it to work one day this week. Thank you all so much for all your helpful suggestions as I push out of my comfort zone.

I returned the last jacket because I literally could not wear it with anything in my wardrobe. Also the waist wasn't quite right and I felt the price was too high for an unlined jacket. This grey blazer was *cough*a lot*more* but it's lined, fits perfectly and it goes with multiple things in the wardrobe.

Parsley, I swear I walked up and down the street in front of 12 rue des Francs Bourgeois multiple times and couldn't find it. That location is listed on their website and fb page so I was quite disappointed when it appeared to have disappeared on me.

My dear, this can totally be dressed down or up! Please don't reserve it only for more formal affairs. As others have mentioned, try to wrap your head around wearing it simply with jeans and a tee...even as near-outerwear with a little scarf. It looks fantastic on you and is a beautiful fabric!

Ah, wonderful post! Sounds like you had a TERRIFIC time - I admit I'm a bit envious! Thanks for the info about the French & British shops - I love these vicarious-living posts. The last time I was there (I only had one day in Paris, and one in London!), we didn't get to do too much shopping! I only got to pop in and out of a few shops around Picadilly Circus (London). You did score a great grey blazer - nice memento!!!

Sounds like a wonderful trip, Sylvie!
Paris is my favorite place in the world, so it's always wonderful to hear about it.

You made some great purchases- I hope you enjoy them. The blazer doesn't have to be dressy or the least bit formal, as others have already said. Just wear it the way you would a sweater- over jeans, tees, turtlenecks- whatever! Of course it can be dressed up, too.

I think after you play with it a little, you'll find that it's going to be a very useful piece. It looks great on you!

Oh, I'm pretty sure Anne Fontaine is still there in the Marais. It's at 12 rue des Francs Bourgeois, in the 3rd arrondissement.

Your posting is so helpful for future travelers and I wish I had Paris and London on my radar. Don't even think about buyer's remorse with that beautiful jacket. It is definitely a wardrobe staple and simply exquisite. Plus, you'll have great memories when you wear it. Welcome home!

Sylvie, thank you for telling us about your trip! I gobbled up every word. I think you showed great restraint and made a few EXcellent purchases. Blazer is divine. I'll give you some homework: wear it a few times this week. You could throw it on over a thermal and faded jeans for goodness sakes! I'm swooning over it right now. How awesome would it be over a black turtle neck (or ink blue, or red or whatever you have)! If you treat it as outerwear, ie. your *coat* maybe you won't be so concerned with making it match or dressing *up* to it's level.

Later when you have time, I'd love to hear details about your packing success and which outfits you considered indispensable. Thanks for giving us a taste of your fun!

Thank you all for your kind words and moral support re: blazer.

Lantana: The collar is a black velvety material. The rest of the coat is a grey/black herringbone. I'm naturally cautious but I would attribute my purchases entirely to YLF influence. Pre-YLF, I would not have known how to shop - which stores to look at, how to choose clothing to try, and certainly a blazer would not have even been on my radar. I used to go into stores and feel overwhelmed, out of place and rummage randomly.

JJsloane, Shannon, Suz and Bijou: The store was already closed and I thought it would be next to impossible to find another jacket that fits waist/shoulders/hips and had the correct sleeve length. My main concern is appropriateness for my lifestyle as its even too formal for my workplace. I could see it working very well for networking events/presentations if I ever had to do those things. I've been scouring the YLF forums for blazer posts to try and find ways to dress it down.

Citygirl: I hope you get to go on your trip soon! I can completely relate to your feelings of wanderlust. My major luxury is an international trip annually and the years I've had to skip, I get all grumbly and spoiled about it.

Sylvie, that blazer is GORGEOUS. No need for remorse. It's a terrific souvenir of your trip. I echo everything Lantana said about styling. There's a bit of riding-jacket thing going on there, so you could wear it with skinnies and boots. Your new red belt is equally fab. It sounds as if you had a terrific trip!

Thank you so much for the update on your trip Sylvie - it sounds wonderful and I so enjoyed your photos. As for the blazer, I think it's absolutely gorgeous, fits you so well and will turn out to be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come. Because of its neutral nature, it will pretty much go with anything. I really like Lantana's idea with the white button down and jeans. And the red belt is fab!

Oh, nostalgia, I haven't seen that dome IRL for more than 30 years. I am so impressed by your purchasing decisions. Is that YLF influence or are you naturally cautious?
As for the blazer,it is lovely. I really like the two tone collar; is the black part the same texture? I can see this blazer with a white button down , sleeves scrunched, with black or ink jeans, or with pants or a skirt in a contrasting colour. I think you'll come to see it as a wardrobe staple.

I'm back! It was a wonderful trip of course - visited a lot of museums, ate fantastic chocolate/desserts/vegetarian food and walked so much my feet ached. When I was preparing for my trip, I found the following two threads very helpful:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-in-london
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....g-in-paris

My shopping time was very limited, but I did manage to squeeze some in:

Paris:

Anne Fontaine: The store in the Marais no longer exists (or at least I couldn't find it) so I ended up at the store on Rue St Honore. I tried on several fabulous blouses, but unfortunately none of them fit my body shape. I can see why Angie loves them - they were well cut, high quality fabric and innovative designs. I was a little intimidated to walk in there due to the prices but the store attendants were extremely friendly and helpful, even though I'm sure I looked less "well heeled" than their usual clientele.

Longchamps: I really loved their leather purses. In general, it was much easier to find the type of purse I prefer - minimal detailing, cross body or tote, rectangular shapes - in Parisian stores. I didn't find the right price/bag lust combination for me so no purchases here, but I will be stalking the brand in the US.

Galleries Lafayette: I didn't see anything I really loved here but that dome (photo #1) is very pretty. They had some fantastic tights (not pictured) that are unlike anything I see here.

Minelli: If I came to Paris without shoes and I needed to buy a pair that would allow me to fit in with the French women immediately, I'd go here first.

Hermes: Didn't go in here, but the window displays were amazing! (photo #2)

London:

Gap: The merchandise IS different from the US stores. Tried on several things but didn't love anything.

Reiss: Gorgeous clothing. Tried on a cape-like coat that fit well in the shoulders but smothered me in fabric. I resisted and didn't let myself try on the beautiful sleeveless blouses because I have enough.

Hobbs: I can see this being a great store for basics. The tees/knit tops were made of the sturdiest fabric I'd seen for those items in a long time. I would have bought one but the fit wasn't just quite right.

Zara: Didn't try on anything here, but again, I think the items are different from the US stores and generally higher quality.

I didn't make it to Whistles before the store closed. :(

Jigsaw: Here is where I hit pay dirt. I found a cropped jacket that fit beautifully but they didn't have the color I wanted. This tunic was fantastic on me but I didn't buy it because the saleslady bought out this blazer for me and I impulsively purchased it. (photo #3/4). And now, dear YLF members, I need your help. Was this a bad purchase? I'm having a case of buyer's remorse and wondering if I got caught up in the shopping frenzy. I'm not even sure how to wear a blazer.

Other purchase:

(photo #5) Red leather belt from the Xmas market in eastern France. I got to choose my buckle and they custom sized it for me. They had a beautiful purple color as well, but I felt it would be less versatile.

Hope you enjoyed my little trip account and thanks if you made it to the end!
