After years and years of not wearing jeans, I’ve just bought two pairs of COH gaucho jeans. My style was always polished trousers. But a shop window tempted me to buy jeans. You look lovely, the navy coat suits you. I’m curious about the lack of scarves, is it because the temps are warming up?

Gorgeous picture! I love that bag and I am not even a huge bag person.
Intriguing report - wish I could see the interesting shapes on the men's hair! And the studded shoes. Who am I kidding - I want to see it all. Will settle for a picture of you in your new items though, if and when you have the chance .

Great report on current French street style!

Your comment about getting away from jeans everyday really resonated for me. I always had a heavy jeans based wardrobe and wore them daily for YEARS. I still enjoy denim but have started adding trousers and casual pants in to the mix and it really freshened up my wardrobe. Plus, I notice that trousers and casual pants are often softer fabrics with more drape and movement to them, making them very comfortable!

I look forward to your trouser outfits!

Also trending this year: the ever-present cobblestone streets of Paris! Gosh that photo makes me miss it--I did my study abroad there.

Love the trend notes--thanks for that. Easy to picture, and good to have an idea of what's what in Europe.

I liked that you use your trip to inspire your style direction. I like to think that I, too, look to Europe for my style. Mostly just big ideas, though--like I won't wear dirty jogging sneakers around.

Thanks for the report, UmmLila! Always interesting You look super cute in navy with high contrast accents! Great you could escape wet weather.

We lived in France 21 years ago - and what you see on the streets now, sounds similar to back then ;)

Personally, I can vouch for wearing dressier trousers as everyday wear! I have a large capsule and am thankful I do. SOOOO comfy. Versatile, practical, polished, and combats denim boredom.

Thanks! I do love a ‘seen on the street’ fashion report.

Last week I spent a day at a destination spa in the countryside. I arrived early and sat in my car for a while watching the last of the staff arrive. They all wore black tops, black bottoms, and black puffers. After a while the guests started arriving, and everyone wore - black tops, black bottoms and dark puffers! It made me laugh because I was wearing: black leggings, a black top, and a black puffer!

It was the first day of spring. The snow is gone, but the only signs of spring are snow drops, and pussy willows.

Interesting report ! Puffers or quilted coats of any weight , sneakers with everything, and even jeans are too ubiquitous and getting boring to look at . You’ve got me itching to dress a little differently !

You certainly do look to be fitting in! I could have had a trip to Paris next month (mom escapade) … but am going to NYC instead (wedding) … maybe I will live to regret that choice.

I took a very last minute trip to Paris last week because the weather in my Andalusian village has been quite rainy for almost a month, and Paris had a pleasant and sunny forecast, As always, I adore people watching, seeing both what locals wear and what other visitors wear. Cafes are perfect for this, with their street-facing woven chairs, as are the light green metal chairs ubiquitous in the Jardin de Luxembourg and Tuileries. Museum-goers are interesting as well.

Things I saw a lot of:

Young women in light blue giant baggy jeans

Polished trousers

Navy and black long coats

Mini or knee length skirts with tights and boots

Shop windows had lots of black shoes with silver studs/grommets or patent leather “babies” in light colors

Well-groomed hair on women (smooth and shiny) and men (interesting shapes)

Shoulder bags and totes of practical size (the belted satchels and the woven leather are popular)

Leather bomber jackets

Collarless lady jackets with gold buttons

Oval sunglasses

Things I saw less of:

Jeans on women over 30

Poly-quilted jackets (except Patagonias on American tourists)

Beige trench coats

Scarves

Sneakers

Dark brown

Oversized looks

Patterns

What did I buy in Paris: a brown leather jacket (not bomber but with an interesting shape); light blue flare jeans with little front pockets; red patent low wedges and light blue low slingbacks. I had in mind to buy a white or cream handbag there, but concluded that prices were too high and that I can get something nicer in Spain. And I thought about a silk scarf but in the end decided that they read a little old-fashioned.

My not-yet-implemented takeaway — I’d like to get away from my typical day to day of jeans and a sweater, perhaps by finding some trousers that can be machine or hand washed easily and are suitable for my day to day casual life. And when the weather warms up in a couple of weeks, I’d like to look into blouses with ruffles, drape or a bit of transparency.

I felt that I fit in pretty well in all neighborhoods with my long navy coat. I only have the one picture of myself that a friend took in Montmartre.
