I have no idea about the hem length but my goodness, this skirt suits you to a tee. You should be a Boden model. Absolutely stunning!

To all:

This summer I plan to extend my midi skirt collection, and pair them with sneakers and other flats. For now though, I will enjoy my new winter skirt capsule!

Jaileen and Suz : Yes, 5'6"! (Ok, 5'5.5" :-))
I have a big head - maybe that makes me look short in photos.

Shevia: Thanks. Yes, when in doubt, follow Angie's advice!

Suz: Your calves are very interesting! I think the widest part of mine is a little low, like you. Also, I think that these boots might be too high, and gape a bit. But the issue you have where the boots have to stretch over your calves: I have not experienced this. So maybe my calves are in the right spot and it is the upper part of my lower leg that is too short, lol!

On the sweatshirt dress: It is a fine sweatshirt dress. There is a little bit of pink gross-grain ribbon on the inside collar. Other than that, it is fairly basic, but worth it to me to buy from Boden because the cut is slightly A-line, which works well on me.

Bijou: Thanks for noticing the style change! I feel really invigorated. I feel fab, dressy, and myself in all my outfits. Such a change from jeans all winter long.

Angie: It is great to know where the boots are supposed to be. (I had no clue before.) Thanks for the boost on the slouch! I think I'll play around with it. Yes, the waist-up leg lengthening works so well because high rises are on-trend. I do think that the skirt length is only possible because of the high waist.

Avdan: Thanks! Yes, I do think I'll go a bit shorter.

Juniper: Thanks! I really do like the longer length, but find it might not be practical in my climate.

I like the skirt at either length, but slightly prefer it where you’ve pinned it shorter.

Btw, the high paperbag waist with a tucked top is a perfect example of how the leg line is lengthened from the hips upward. That offsets the longer midi length so that you don't look short in the leg. I LOVE this styling trick because I'm in flats 99% of the time.

Thanks, Smittie. Your boots fit SMASHINGLY scrunched. LOVE. When pulled up, they're a little long, but the midi hides that! BONUS :)

I have very tailored ink blue stretch suede boots that fit like a glove and are very comfy. Lower heel. Bought them in London three years ago. Peter Kaiser is excellent quality too. I wear them all the time with my Fall/Winter dresses. See Find.

I'll make your stretch boots a Fab Find.

Smittie, I am loving this new style direction. You look great in this skirt however you wear it, so I don't think you can make a mistake with it. The sweatshirt dress is very cool on you and a great addition to your wardrobe, a perfect substitute for jeans on the weekend.

Are you 5'6", Smittie?

My calves are proportionately shorter than average and at 13.5" neither narrow nor wide. (I'm 5'4" but my calves are apparently short even for my height.) This means boot fitting can be insane. I've had luck with LaCanadienne (as you have) and some Aquatalias. But knee high boots often come up higher on me than they are "supposed" to. The ankle can be too baggy, the widest part of the calf isn't where my widest part is (so it has to stretch to fit me) while there are gaps at the top and it comes too close to my knees. Argh. These look as if they aren't a perfect fit on you, but pretty darned good under the circumstances. And regardless, they look attractive.

How do you find that sweatshirt dress? Alas, the skirt is sold out in my size (weeping).

On the boots: please see additional pictures in my initial post.
My calves are 13” and 13.5” and the fabric skims them (it is not stretched at all). You could fit a much bigger calf in these. The top gapes a bit (see pics). You can see that the boots come up quite high on my calves (to just below the knee) and I wonder if I have short calves (my inseam is 30”). The size 39 in this boot has the same length as typical 38. There is more room in the toe box that most 38s (which are usually slightly too narrow for me unless they’re quite rounded). The vamp is average.
The ankle fit is really good on me! (Usually the ankle is far too big.) I should post this on the Boden site!

On the skirt: I think the paperbag waist could work on anyone who has a long waist area. The business in the mid-section covers a lot.

I’m glad to know both lengths work. It means I have options! I think I’ll probably hem the skirt, mostly because the current length seems like it would get dirty in the winter slush (not that I walk that much in the snow, but still) and also because I also need to wear it with flat tall boots and the proportions with flats are better with a shorter length skirt.

Thanks Sarahd8: yes, I am comfortable wearing the waist a bit higher. I think it looks better, actually!

Angie: thanks! I like both lengths too. Those sweater dresses look great! I love the wide stripe but also the fabric of the red looks really nice. Good luck. Fingers crossed they are fluid and not body con! I think I will do a moderate hem As you suggest.

Sterling: Thanks! I too think 1 is the best. I like the larger sweater. I’m so pleased you were inspired to get this skirt! I hope it works out!

Suz: Thanks! The length decisions is a tough one. I think this skirt is so elegant too. So happy it was available in navy.

I finally received my sock boots. Fab! But you must order a full size up from your normal European size (I’m normally a 38 and got a 39, which feels exactly like a 38.)

I also got this paperbag skirt for work. The fabric, though 100% polyester, is wonderful. However, it seems to attract dust. I’m keeping it anyway.

Now I’m wondering whether the skirt should be hemmed. In #1, 2, I pinned the skirt up about 3.5”. In #3, 4, I let down the pins and hiked up the skirt on my waist.

5 is my new sweatshirt dress and leggings which I I have been wearing all w/e (with flat boots, not these).

6-9 are different angles of the sock boots, to give you an idea of fit on a 30” inseam, 13.5” calf circumference.
