I don't think I can wear petite unless the pants are designed to be worn with heels. This particular pair was exactly the right length that I like. I'll have to try that next time!

Oddly enough, I preferred the fit of the "straighter" cut, which they call Marisa, than the "curvy" cut, which is Julie. They didn't have that pair in Julie, but maybe that would've helped. I tried a few others that they had in both cuts, and Marisa was better all around.

I also left behind a pair of jeans that felt great and met all my checkboxes because they had very white/bleached whiskering right in that area! Why??

I think this is a rise thing. I get this ALL THE TIME. I even get this with pants that are baggy in the butt, so I don't agree that it's a matter of not enough fabric in the behind (I don't have much of a booty).

I'm guessing that the rise is too long, as others have said. I usually buy petites' pants, and when I buy misses', I can get this. It's like the waistband fits where it's supposed to, but there's too much fabric in the rise, so it puddles in the crotch area. I haven't had this problem with petites' pants, only misses'.

Can you try petites', Pastrygirl? Or are you too tall?

Angie has told me a bit of whiskering is inevitable with dress pants containing stretch and my body type (big butt, flat front). I think you have a similar body type. Anyway she said as long as the butt is not too tight, and you're not getting big folds (indicating rise is too long) a little whiskering is ok. Also it shows more in photos than IRL.

Very interesting. I am not trying to hijack and if it seems that way, I apologize.
I bought a pair of higher waisted wide-legged pants a few weeks ago. I was getting that whiskering look when I tried them on and decided they must be pulling somewhere and if I lost two-three pounds it would disappear. The SA told me it was that the rise was too long and there was excess fabric. I thought she was mistaken. I lost two or three pounds and they looked the same. I am thinking it was the rise and Angie's article describes it well.

Hmmmm

Suz has already pointed you towards a great post Angie wrote a while ago on it. Most of the time for me it has to do with incorrect length of the rise.

According to Imogen, there's not enough fabric in the seat of the pants.

I would have guessed that they were just a touch snug around the hip but if they were loose that is obviously not it. Quite the conundrum. I find most pants turn into a nasty wrinkle zone for me and decided it must be the configuration of my hips or lack of derriere.

Years ago, I would've bought them even with that wrinkling. But now, I just couldn't do it!

I would love to know the reason too. I think that thinner fabric contributes to it. But I've noticed that some pants just do that on me and some don't--can't figure out why.

I tried on some pants at Loft today that I loved (these), but they wrinkled as in the picture attached below. I tried my usual size, which seemed to fit great, and one size larger, which were definitely too big everywhere. I was surprised that the too-big pair wrinkled the same exact way, given that they were loose everywhere! The attached is not the pair I tried, but the wrinkling was the same. Other pairs in the same cut/style/size but different pattern did not wrinkle that way, but I didn't like those patterns as much.

Thoughts?

I also loved the way this other pair fit, but the length was so odd on me. I don't think I can wear them, so I left them behind. Boo. They'd look weird with booties, right?
