I am 5ft tall and have an hourglass shape. I have found the Christie fit dress pants from Victoria's Secret fit me very well and I don't have any issues with the seat being to baggy. They are only available online, but the returns are pretty easy.

I used to wear the Express Editor pants and they do fit well. I haven't gotten them recently b/c I can't find the length I want in the stores. The VS pants have an inseam of 30 which works perfectly with most of my shoes.

You might also try Express editor pants. I've had good luck with these not being baggy. I no longer have a pot, but am still "squishy" around the waist.

I second the recommendation for the BR Petite Martin pants. I have a few of these and find that they are really flattering. I have also found that Ann Taylor petite jeans, while not as nice as premium denim in terms of the washes and fabrics, work pretty well too. I recently tried on a pair of the "Lindsay" white jeans and was impressed with the fit. They don't seem to have much stretch content (lycra, elasterell etc) so that might help with the stretching out issue.

I suppose technically I am an hourglass... chest is 33 which equals hip measurement... I just don't have a tiny waist.

My shoulders are not quite broad, but also definetly aren't narrow and delicate. I used to think my shoulders were really broad, but my DD14's shoulders are much more broad than mine, and in general I can fit the shoulders of off-the-rack petite jackets okay (bust and waist are another issue though). And if I measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, it about equals the width of my hips.

But, since I do gain weight on my upper body before my lower body, I would say I am an "hourglass verging towards an inverted triangle."

I do tend to try to balance out my hips and shoulders, to create more of an hourglass... but not always. I think that's the benefit of being sorta this, and kinda that... you can break the rules when you feel like breaking them, and jussstttt get away with it. ;-)

But most important rule for me is: define a waist.

(and yet sometimes I break that rule too ;-)

If you have similar measurements, definetly try Citizens of Humanity jeans! I bet you will love them.

thanks for all your suggestions. Never thought about how the waist I tried the Ralph Lauren petites and they leave me with BBS as well. Funny though, the first pair I bought is great so bought another identical pair in a different color and I get BBS with only the 2nd pair.

I purchased Sigrid Olsen dress pants before stores closed and wouldn't you know it, those pants fit pretty good in the rear end department.

Will take your list next time I go shopping !

Our measurements are similiar and weight gain areas are pretty close - I am short waisted - so what do you think is our figure shape?

Hi Encore, I'm 5'0," also have a little pot, and have the baggy seat issue too, because I don't have much of a butt or hips. For reference, my waist is 28 inches (27 on a good day) and hips only 33 inches. I gain weight in my stomach and upper body long before I gain anything in my hips, butt and thighs.

I have tried on just about every pants and jeans imaginable, and my best bets are:

1) For jeans, try Citizens of Humanity. Try their Elsons (straight legs), Ambers (boot cut), and Huttons (flared - kind of like a trouser cut). They do have a bit of stretch, but not so much that they will stretch out horribly after the 1st wear and leave you with baggy butt syndrome (BBS).

You might also try Earnest Sewn for skinnies, however, they are lower rise than the COH I listed above. Earnest Sewns I have barely stretch at all, and there's something about the cut that prevents them from sliding down off my hips, like most lower-rise skinnies tend to do.

2) For dress pants, try Banana Republic Martins in petite. These are the best fitting dress slacks I have found, hands-down. Look for styles that have a thicker waistband - the wider waistband will "lock and load" your trouble zone.

If you want jeans and a lower price point than COH, you can also try Ralph Lauren petites. Their denim doesn't stretch out, and they tend to be higher rise. However depending on your size, you may be out of luck. Since losing weight, I can no longer fit in their smallest size. :-(

Inc brand at Macy's, in petites, can occasionally yield good-fitting pants and jeans too... However the quality is just not as good, unfortunately.

I am a 5'2 petite and have a really hard time finding pants (casual and dressy) that fit me in the seat. Any suggestions on brands to try? I have a "little" pot so need to be careful on getting pants that are too tight around the stomach. I have made lots of pants purchases, including ones with stretch material, and they look good for the 1st wear and then stretch out too much in the seat.

Thanks for your suggestions.
