This is hilarious...and I have to admit that I am coming to dislike pants, too. One of my most freeing wardrobe moments came this past spring when I gave away a pair of trousers that I felt compelled to wear because they were in my closet. Once they were gone, I never looked back. I have slim hips, so pants are not a problem fit for me...and yet I still dislike them. I currently own only one pair of black pants/trousers. All my other pants are denim. I LOVE my premium denim.

The main reasons I dislike trousers/pants are: 1) Finding the right trouser PPL for all your various heel heights is nearly impossible, and 2) Pants are unbearably hot in the summer.

Until very recently I would say that I was more comfortable in pants. I tend to be very active throughout the day and pants/jeans gave me more freedom to move about without worrying about something showing! I find pants to be easy to fit for the most part, I have more issues with finding the right length (I'm 5"2). I am slowly transitioning to a more skirt/dress heavy wardrobe as with my boyish figure, skirts and dresses help me look more feminine . Funny post!

Oh yeah, I forgot I started this thread. Ironkurtin, it's true that pants CAN work equally well for men as for women. (And gee whiz, I like a guy in a kilt, come to that...) I'm a case in point. I've got the body for jeans. What I meant was that skirts are the more traditionally feminine garment, and it does seem that many pants seem to be tailored to fit those without a heckuva lotta hips or bum, right? I constantly hear complaints from friends about how pants fit in the hips but gape enormously at the waist. This is not so much of an issue with skirts.

What a hilarious read! Thank so much for posting this. I was in skirts and dresses literally all summer and thought I'd lose my mind this fall when I started trying to find jeans that fit. I coulld SO relate! Now I've found a few pairs of jeans that I like, but I still don't like pants. I think one black pair is enough, right?

I wouldn't necessarily agree that pants are for men and skirts are for women. We're all built roughly the same, after all. To be blunt, the reason for skirts vs pants for women is, well, toilet issues... hiking up rather than pulling down.

But I say this being shaped much like a dude from the waist down, and pants are one of the things that I can almost always find.

This was hilarious.

I hate pants, too. I wear them (jeans, at least) and sort of can't imagine life without them, in our climate, because the whole layering tights thing sounds like a recipe for discomfort to me, too (although I do intend to try it this year). But I HATE trying them on.

In theory it should be a bit easier for me since my weight loss, especially since I lost a lot around the hips/bum/thighs and my build is now quite "boyish." But my thighs are still much bigger than pants makers seem to imagine, and so are my calves, and my rise is so long. So a great fit is almost impossible.

Maybe i'm crazy but i feel warmer by doubling up on tights than i do by wearing pants. But i also have yet to stick a pair of those...long...john....things under my pants. I'm not sure they'd fit well under there >.> Maybe i wear my pants too tight?

Pants can be very tricky though!

Pants are my least favorite article of clothing, especially when it comes to shopping for them. It is so easy to believe that your body is all wrong when it comes to trying on pants!
Elisabeth, you are so lucky to have a figure for the pants because I am sure you look great in dresses and skirts too! Ah well, it is what it is...
I still wear pants and jeans every week though because I like the variety and because ones I managed tobuy are pretty good fit for me.

AH, I agree with Sal - I've had the pants blues lately, mostly because NONE of my pants seem to be PPL - they're either too short, or, if I try to hem them longer, too long. And somehow despite washing in cold water they seem to gradually shrink over time. I've just about given up on wide leg pants except my L&L's and my Frye Carsons. In them I know I have a PPL combination, but as far as the rest are concerned, I'm about to give up!

(As a fellow Minnesotan, I've definitely experienced the "double muffin top" of pants and long underwear - NOT pretty!)

It's a re-run of the Daily Show tonight, so instead I'm browsing old fashion posts, and this one nearly caused me to inhale my drink:

http://www.alreadypretty.com/2.....-rant.html

I've never thought about pants being difficult for us ladies because they're really meant for men, but she's got a point. Dresses and skirts are, after all, garments designed for women, whereas trousers are for the boys. Since I happen to be boyishly-shaped, this hasn't affected me so much -- pants fit me pretty well -- but I could sure relate to the bit about how bloating combined with slight pant shrinkage can cause all kinds of muffin-and-cameltoe problems!

All you English and Aussie ladies, pardon my free use of the word 'pants' when what I really mean is trousers.
