I too have noticed a wide variety of pants lengths this year that are considered fashionable. From floor sweepers to capris, everything in between. And yes there seem to be "rules" that the fashionable follow as to just how you style each pant length with the right footwear. I think I have already lost several days of my life from standing in front of the mirror, rolling and re-rolling or folding my pants trying to get them just so.

At least with folding/rolling being on trend, it's easy to experiment!

*rubs hands with glee*

Pant lengths are MY THING.

PPLs are not out the door, actually. But you have to get the details right - lengthen the leg line with the right high-vamped and ankle strap footwear, and/or tuck your top for extra visual leg length. You might also need to add rolled cuffs for structure, and shorten the length of certain pant styles if you aren't tall.

And just to be crystal clear - some cropped pant styles worn in a certain way at a certain length will always be poison eye to me.

Good question. I'm hemming (and hawing over) a pair of wide-legged jeans to wear at a shorter length this summer. I often wear pants just shy of my ankles, so I have a little experience* with this. I usually cuff them so that I have the option on wearing them long or short.

Try experimenting with the pants you have and your shoe collection. Mess about in front of the mirror, turning up the hem on the inside or the outside to get a feel for what looks best. Cuffing jeans is a good place to start. Or buy a packet of pins and try pinning hems at different lengths. In my opinion there's no right or wrong way, just the way that suits your legs and your shoes.

* Disclaimer: I'll probably be back here with the exact same question about my jeans a week from now.

Not a clue as PPL regularly eluded me.

I have sworn off most other lengths, to be honest. I regularly feel like ankle pants are just too hard to get right and make look intentional rather than I accidentally shopped in the petite's section :)

I am hoping someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Ok, so it seems like all the usual PPL rules have been thrown out the window with recent trends. There are ankle length pants, both skinnier and wider in the leg, and a lot of cuffing, again with all leg widths, and a lot of lengths that previously Angie would have called not PPL. Can someone help me synthesize what's in and what's out, and what I should be looking for in new pieces?

Obviously measurements will vary by person, but just a fer'instance: I'm 5'9" and need a 32" inseam minimum for full length pants, preferably 33" if I want to be able to wear them with shoes that aren't totally flat. When I've tried in 29-30" length pants, labeled ankle length, they just look like regular pants that are a bit too short. Do I need to go shorter, 28" ish? 25-26" starts getting into Capri territory.
