Robin, you've probably seen Angie's guidelines on this, but aim for pants with a mid to higher rise and/or a wide waistband. I may not be an apple, but I can vouch for the fact that these features are solid gold for coping with excess baggage around the middle.

Thank you both!

Michelle: You made me smile, and when I'm near a Banana Republic I'll check those pants out.

Elpgal: Thank you. I'll check them out - both the pants and the posts.

Try the Vince (or Vince Camuto, can never tell them apart) ponte pants. Also, check out DebbieK's posts.

Robina, I'm going to tap into my YLF psychic powers and guess the followingL
1. You will be told that slim-legged silhouettes, i.e. ones that taper in at the hem and lie close to the ankle/calf, will be slam dunks for you provided you pair them with floatier tops. Since that's your preference, I foresee no trouble here.
2. You will be told to run, not walk, to Banana Republic in order to acquire their Sloan fit pants, which now come in various lengths and have become beloved by petites everywhere. :)
3. If you're not into jeans, you may be told that upscale trackpants, i.e. ajogging pant silhouette in a more luxe fabric, are fabulous. I agree, and I suspect apples could wear them well.
4. The other ladies will be of far more help on this thread than me. :p
Your reply

I've read through Angie's wonderful body type articles, but am still feeling a little mystified about how best to shop for pants for my petite apple body.

Since I'm leaving town next week, and I have a gazillion things to do this week, I'm planning to just dash around the corner to the American apparel (still getting used to - and loving - the fact that city-living means a clothing store on the same block as home) to pick up 2 or 3 new pairs of pants. The two pairs of jeans I've been wearing for the past couple of months are all but worn out, and aren't the most flattering on me, I don't think.

Any suggestions for pants styles (of any length) that might look good on my body type as I've described it?

Yes, yes, still working on getting pictures for you. I don't have anyone here to take any right now, and I'm pretty sure the photo files I have are either headshots or candid photos that don't show a full view of my body.
