I used to have your body type until gravity did away with my hips over night. I remember The Gap having a lot of variety. I don't know if that is still true. Our local Gap closed.

Good luck! Once you know you have a couple of brands that work, and you have some basics in place you will feel so much better.

Thanks for those suggestions cat2, I'll try to check some of them out! Great tips Chiara, I'll keep those in mind. I do usually have to have the waist taken in, I imagine having two darts in the back already makes that easier and gives less distortion to the shape.

I can only comment about what I look for in the pant cut, to accommodate alterations for my 11” waist-hip difference
For tailored pants:
-buy the size that fits properly on the hips (so at your widest point)
- look for 2 darts in the back waist; these can be unpicked and resewn, so that the extra fabric in the waist is removed; this is easiest to do when there are no belt loops and minimal pockets etc
I also look for trousers with elastic at the back (I prefer flat front) as typically this is an easier alteration.
Tapered pants eg balloon or ‘carrot’ style and pants with gathered bulk at the bottom eg harem style, tailored jogger style often work too.

I have a similar shape. The best mall brand pants I have found are from Express and Talbots. The Express pants that work are the ones with pleats; they usually have some styles with high defined waists and not too much volume in front. Avoid the lower rise full pants they also have. The other reliable brand is the Talbots curvy fits; they usually have chinos, and sometimes cargoes. If the pant is close except for the waist, I have a tailor take in the waist. If you are looking for ponte knit trousers to wear to work, the ones from NYDJ have worked for me and are often on sale. The other brand that has worked for work trousers is the Tahari brand sold at Macy’s and other department stores.

So this is a spin off from my other thread about shopping frustrations, where someone suggested I make a post asking for tips on brands/models that might fit my body shape, so here goes!

I'm a fairly dramatic pear shape in measurements, with a 27in waist and 41in hips. I do look somewhat balanced from the front though, meaning that most of the width comes from a generous behind, lol. This makes pants fitting extremely difficult, as when I size up to accommodate my butt I most often end up with a lot of excess fabric in the waist, front crotch and the legs. So I am wondering if anyone else on the board has a similar shape, and if so have any recommendations for brands to try out that might fit me better. I am mainly looking for dressier pants and not jeans (my go tos for jeans are Levi's and Gina Tricot). I have a long rise as well, so prefer high waist styles, and some stretch content is usually required. As an added challenge, I'm not a huge fan of stretchy/gathered waistbands, and prefer more tailored styles.

The only two dressier pants I own at the moment and that fit me decently are these wide/flared trousers from &OtherStories (these fit without alterations, but I have since tried other styles from the same brand without luck), and the smart ankle trousers from Uniqlo (I had to take them in quite a bit at the sides, and I don't love how my butt looks in them (weird pocket placement), but otherwise they are ok).
