I have the same issue. Last fall I tried wearing skirts and dresses with ankle boots and bare legs and it just isn't a look I like on myself. I did manage to wear a slightly taller ankle boot with rolled hems a few times that worked. I wore a dark sock that blended into the shadows and rolled the pants to a length that was close to the top of the booties when standing.

My fall/winter show wardrobe is mostly dark so dark socks blend in and don't create a break between the pant and boot.

It's interesting how the season that is a problem for one woman is the easy one for another. Footwear-wise, fall and winter are easy peasy for me. For one thing, you get to wear socks. Ergo, chafing is a non-issue. Ankle booties go with everything for me. I've got lots. It's summer that's the problem -- shoes without socks tend to be uncomfortable, unless they're sandals with a lot of ventilation, and what IS the deal with sandals these days? I've been looking for low wedges that aren't old-lady sandals, and they're hard to find. Mostly you get dead flat sandals, or super-high-heeled sandals, or else flip flops.

Oh yes, pants! I have been struggling with this lately. Skinnies with mid calf boots are my default because they are so easy. I have been struggling with straights lately because I don't like too much bunching around the ankles. Scrunch with skinnies is fine but the same scrunching with boots drives me batty. I will be following this thread with interest!

always trying on "pants and footwear ?"

summer is easy-show some leg,how much depends on the look, weather, type of shoe etc. Roll pants, capris, jeans or whatever, or not is usually easy to decide. Everything seems to look great with sandals, flats, sneakers, booties, heels of all kinds be it sandals, wedges, or whatever.

Now comes fall and winter, and the what, how, socks, no socks, boot heights, and length and width of the pants, jeans, etc. gets to be a problem. I think that is why tall boots are so popular, just tuck in the skinnies and, or leggings and you are good to go. But with all the variations in shaft height of booties, heel heights, widths of pants and jeans, need for warmth by adding socks ,and not wanting to just roll and show bare leg, problems arise.

I am finding that my ankle booties are the biggest problem. Just analyzing my fall winter booties, I realize that I seldom wore my lower ones. somehow they just do not work for me unless I show some leg, even if it is just a little bit. do you think longer jeans that bunch look OK with the low ankle booties? What about skinnies that are just at ankle, with oxfords, sneakers, or other type flats? what I wore most and liked best are my booties that have about 5" shaft height, and fit tight around my leg. With ample calves, getting into higher shaft boots is a fitting problem though. Interested in comments, solutions, and your problems with this fall/ winter issue.
