I'm still laughing at Maya's description of Russet as "a disgusting shade of potato brown."

Awesome!

Pantone named Honeysuckle the color of the year. I'm not sure they always predict it right though I'm sure seen in the stores.

I like the idea of finding ways to wear it in small amounts like in a top peeking out from a jacket or in a scarf. I'm afraid a big expanse of it would just make me look OL. Well I am an old lady but I don't want to emphasize it.

I do wonder...does anyone really USE the Pantone color guide? And if so, how? I find that with so many retailers at my disposal it is possible to get a huge range of colors at any given time, and only a handful are "of the moment" colors. If I stumble upon a clothing item in a Pantone 'curent year' colorway, I consider it a happy accident.

I've been noticing a resurgence of a particular combo of colors that was big in the mid to late 80s, and there they are..."Honeysuckle," "Regatta," "Peapod," and "Lavender." Combinations of these tones were commonly put together with black into one item.

Here are a few examples: http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_f.....641633.jpg
http://www.etsy.com/listing/12.....indbreaker
http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_f.....433411.jpg
http://cache1.bigcartel.com/pr.....C_0151.jpg

There's lots of this color mix in the thrift stores if anyone cares! I have a skirt I thrifted about 5 years ago that is black, "honeysuckle," and "regatta." So if displaying Pantone's trendy colors is your thing, it should be easy for cheap!

But what I think is weird is the 80s colors, but the interest in going back (again) to the 70s in styles. Strange bedfellows, I say.

As a whole, these are too pastel and springy for me. The only one I really like is honeysuckle. Some of the others might be OK if interpreted in a more saturated way.

I'm excited about silver cloud and am glad to see blue curacao and regatta because I didn't get much turquoise last year. Pea pod and coral rose may be great if not too pastel or too bright. Beeswax is supposed to work for me if soft but I've never gotten it right.

Will be even more eagerly looking forward to Angie's prediction for the best colour(s). I'm not excited by them as a group, but as with many things, taken on their own there could be lots of options to go with what I already have, so I'm open-minded.

I really like these colors, and think that they would all be particularly good for my coloring, except for the silver cloud and silver peony. I don't remember seeing that shade of orange...well, ever. I love orange, so I will be excited if there is a new shade for me to try.

Will be all over Honeysuckle, Regatta, Peapod and Lavender. If I can find a muted shade of the Coral I might try it but a saturated version would overwhelm me. Might stick to accessories for that.

Russet and beeswax would possibly be too earthy and warm toned for me.

Michelle,

Honeysuckle is a deep rosey red pink. Very pretty.
Russet is, as the name would imply, a disgusting shade of potato brown (sorry, someone less biased than I should probably be doing this).
Coral rose is a bright warm citrusy orange.
Regatta is a pure medium blue. I think this would be lovely on you.
Peapod is a kind of jade green.
Blue curacao is an updated variation on the turquoise trend and a fabulous color (and might I add it would look fabulous on you).
Beeswax is a warm golden yellow.
Lavender is a cool pastel purple.
Silver peony is a very pale nude peach color.
Silver cloud is a medium-light gray. Not as light as the dove gray that was in a few seasons ago, but still much lighter than charcoal.

I'm basing my descriptions on the swatches themselves, but the designer sketches show huge variation. And of course this is all subject to variations in monitor settings as well.

And here are my own ( not so interestingly written) descriptions:

Honeysuckle - a cross between hot pink and red
Coral Rose - deep orangey coral
Beewax - a ligher, golden orange
Regatta - medium deep blue
Lavender - well, a lavender :)
Blue Curacao - a medium turquoise
Peapod - medium yellow-green
Russet- deep cool brown
Silvery Peony - a light blush, or pink-y nude
Silver Cloud - light silver grey, a bit darker than dove grey

Hope this is helpful, just what I see (they're all pretty pastel-like in tone, but I noted the more pastel ones):

Honeysuckle - A rosy pink, medium color depth
Coral Rose - A slightly pinkish orange, saturated color
Peapod - A mix between aqua and lime, medium color depth
Beeswax - A heavier yellow with some orange in it, saturated color
Silver Peony - A pale rosy pink, pastel color
Russet - A warm pink-toned brown, medium color depth
Regatta - A bright mid-tone blue, fairly saturated color
Blue Curacao - A cross between blue and aqua (so more blue), pastel color
Lavender - A light purple, pastel color but medium color depth
Silver Cloud - A silvery gray, pastel color

Michelle, I have copied here the text on the Pantone site that describes these colors somewhat.g

Flirtatious Honeysuckle is a feel-good hue that brings a festive
sense of playfulness to this season’s palette. This vibrant
pinkish-red for both apparel and cosmetics makes consumers
feel alive, and is a perfect post-winter pick-me-up.
Spicy, gregarious and persuasive describe Coral Rose, a
sophisticated orange that, much like Beeswax, a warm,
honeyed yellow, conjures up feelings of faraway lands and
locales. Pair either of these piquant hues with a cool,
refreshing color-wheel opposite like Regatta for a vibrant
color combination that will add zest to any wardrobe.
Romantic, fanciful Lavender implies sensuality with its
subtle hint of red undertone. Combine it with Beeswax or
Coral Rose for a unique counterpoint.
Alluring Blue Curacao evokes thoughts of tropical destinations
and pays homage to the 2010 Color of the Year, Turquoise.
Practical consumers can continue to incorporate enticing
Caribbean blues into spring by pairing Blue Curacao with
warm, complementary colors like Honeysuckle or Coral Rose.
Peapod, a fresh yellow-green, brings an organic element to
the palette and is reminiscent of the green shoots that signify
change and new beginnings traditionally found in spring.
Trans-seasonal neutrals ground this season’s palette and
provide a stable backdrop for all the other colors. The
so-called “nude hues” are represented in the range of
ethereal Silver Peony to dramatically deep Russet.
Another dependable background color, Silver Cloud, is
the quintessential neutral that consumers can rely on to
coordinate with everything in their closet.

Could I ask someone a favour? Think someone could tell me exactly what colours we're dealing with here? Names like "honeysuckle" are not too eluminating for me.

It looks like I'm going to be wearing a lot of brown and orange! I might be able to find some greens and teal too, but the pantone shades are too pastel for me

Tanya, I think you would look lovely in the silver peony. And of course lavendar.

I'm not thrilled with this set for myself. They are sort of off-pastels. Too saturated to be true pastels but not bright enough to be true brights. They're very pretty colors and I'm sure I'll be wearing them, but overall they're not my best.

I have been wanting to find "my" orange though, and the coral rose might be it.

I love all of these colours. I can't even choose a favourite! I'm really glad lavender is back. It always suited me and I was sad that it was never in style.

I love love honeysuckle, that shade has always been one of my favourites and I am so very glad for to be everywhere this season.

Based on what I can see on my monitor, these are not going to work for me. But I look forward to seeing some of you all put them to use.
