Wow, Trix. It's interesting that the sales associate told you to size down. That's counterintuitive. I get whiskering sometimes. I'll have to try this. But I think I may have the same issue with the thighs. I've got healthy thighs.

I know very little about this, but recently, when I was trying on a pair of pants, the SA pointed out some horizontal creasing at the crotch, which she called "whiskering," and said it meant I should try on a smaller size. (Which solved the creasing problem, but then my thighs were too big. ) It might be difficult if you're a size 0/2, but I wonder what would happen if you tried sizing down in a cut for curvier people? Banana Republic's Jackson cut might work, and Ann Taylor used to make curvy versions of their pants (not sure if they still do it with their redesign).

Thanks for the responses. So what does one do? Buy a bigger size? For me, that usually means the pants are too large in the rear and thighs. My hips/thighs are a bit bigger in proportion to my slender frame, but I wear a size 0/2 in most pants and sizing up means no part of the pant fits properly. Is there a certain type of rise (lower or higher) I should be looking for? Anyone have any luck with particular pants?

I just went to Banana Republic. I usually wear their Martin pants in a size 0, but decided to try the Jackson cut (for curvier figures) to see if they would work. They were too big in the thighs and rear! Ugh. Martins fit well, but I still get the creasing in the front. I suppose I can just deal with it, but I worry that it might look like my pants are too small, even though they do seem to be the proper size.

I know pants are one of the hardest thing to fit, but if anyone has any "magic pants" I'd love to hear about them!

Sometimes it’s about fit, and sometimes its about body type. This type of creasing usually happens when you are bottom heavy - or a pretty pear which is to Shiny’s point. As for the models, it looks like a fit thing. Although, that amount of creasing is fine.

Yeah, I think this is about fit in the hips, right at crotch point. I suspect it's most likely to happen if you are a pear shape, with tiny waist compared to hips?

Personally, I think a little bit of such creasing/wrinkling is fine (like shown in those images). Certainly it's less of a fashion faux pas than camel toe or muffin top.

I sometimes get that with some styles. I think it's perhaps trial and error to find ones which don't crease. The tousers perhaps fit on the waist but not the hips etc x

I have a question about how pants are supposed to fit in the crotch area. I notice that many of my pants pull right around that area, and by the end of the day, I have wrinkles from sitting down. Here are a couple of photos I was able to find from websites to illustrate what I mean by the pulling (look at the crotch area):

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....pid=670858
http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../99809.jsp

Does this mean I am wearing the wrong size, or does it have to do with the construction of the pants? It seems to happen with most of my pants.

Thanks!
