Even if my “winter” coloring makes me veer towards jewel tones, I’d still pin this swatch to my bulletin board because I’m enthralled by the sheer loveliness of the shades, hues, and combinations. To me, Pantone’s annual palettes have never been prescriptive as much as they are a way to celebrate the hundreds of shades and hues available so our eyes are refreshed and our color sense re-invigorated. </p> <p>I may, or may not, wear or decorate with any of this year’s colors, but I’m still inspired by them. From what I know of it, the info is gathered very much from "experts" and "influencers", the point being that the rest of us will paint our walls or pull on clothes in colors in the forecast. That's where the "doesn't make sense to me" comes in--I have known for several years what color I want my and my son's bedroom to be. It doesn't matter a bit that the color for mine is one of the colors of the year for this year, other than that it's a bit irritating that a few years from now, people will assume I did it to be trendy and am now out of date. I don't think of it as a response to what folks want, but rather inspiration garnered from the people they gather data from, and maybe a dose of wishful thinking. I collected this information as specific to the New York Fashion Week S/S fashion shows. Another year with not much in my preferred colors — it seems this year there was so much pink, lilac, shades of yellow and mustard, and earth tones. Not a lot here for cool/jewel tone lovers except for that blue, which is one of my favorites. I do like those orangey warm colors as an accent, and a little olive green, but for the most part, those colors are not my most flattering or useful. Reds and pinks plus earth tones does seem very current, as do those deep golden yellows. I love olive and brown for spring!
